1911 with a rail
What are your thoughts with a rail on a 1911? Do you have to use different holster?
|
Yes Sir,.........
|
They aren't my thing, but many like them and have a need for them.
|
I recently picked up a Colt Rail Gun, I keep it in the night stand with a light attached. Also I take it if I go for an evening stroll.
|
Yes, a holster made for a Rail must be used.
I really like my Railed Mc Operator. |
functionality and beauty. If you need it, get it. If you want it, get it. My Sig Scorpion is my first 1911 with a rail. I bought a cheap <$50 light to hang on it. (of course, I don't know where the light is. I used it just last night at the range, I think my son stole it.)
My thoughts were, if the light is useful, then I might upgrade to a better light. If this light were to give out, I would definitely replace with a top of the line light, maybe with a laser also. I do like it. Additionally, the light fits on the Glock rail also, so nice double duty. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/IMAG0509.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...d/IMAG0508.jpg |

I'm a fan of weapon lights and I like 1911s so it's like peanut butter and jelly to me--they go together. |
I use a 1911 for HD and I prefer WMLs so a rail is a must. Don't make any difference for carry but obviously you need a special holster relative to a non-railed.
|
I much prefer the light in my hand as far as pistols go. My AR does have a Surefire mounted to it though.
|
Personally my brother and I love ours more than we can say :) They are twins.. Consecutive serial numbers.. 135 and 136.. :)

I would love to have the Mc Operator and TRP Operator one day... Great looking gun folks.
|
Love the ideal but just not the application in real life. Basically they make a ton of sense as bedside gun to me but I do not like the balance they have with a light attached. I am sure it is just me but they just feel "unbalanced" in my hands. I even like the way they look (Springfield LW Champion Operator being the best looking one IMO) but I currently don't own one.
|
I have many handguns but none with a rail. I always wished one of my Glocks had a rail. I always wanted a 1911. So I want a 1911 with a rail which is why I bought a TRP operator this past Wednesday. Can't wait to get it. Is the holster that comes with it any good?
To the OP = get what you want! |
I have the Colt Rail gun and RIA 2011 Tactical/full rail. IMO, a light mounted on a handgun is ideal for HD. One hand operates light switches, opens doors, picks up kids, etc and the other has the gun and light in one. The light can be pointed and lit on the ground to see everything in a room. It does not have to be pointed at someone/something to see them/it.
Now a second handheld is always ideal as well. As for carry use, I'd use one without a rail. http://imageshack.us/a/img202/2746/coltrailgun.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img69/8785/ria20113.jpg |

We think the rail is an interesting variation on the original dust cover. Not for everybody. Holsters are problematic.
We trudge on. |
My next 1911 will be a rail gun. probably a Colt.
|
i personally would love the colt RG that the usmc just adopted. but ill probably by a Springfield GI or equivelent to it if i can find one next.
|
I'm sure that in some instances they have a purpose, but they 'sho is ugly'.

Although the SA MC Operator and the Colt Rail Gun is sexy, the DW Specialist looks awesome with all the semi custom touches. If I had to look for a rail gun for duty it would be the ones I mentioned.

A $60 Caspian rail, a few minutes with the tig welder, a $120 TRL-1 as recommended here and ceracote of the frame later I no longer worry about where the light is. BTW- it fits just fine in the pre-rail holster. |
