glock 23 chambered and shot 9mm
Met my friend at the range today. He wanted to shoot his new glock 23. It was his first firearms purchase. He has shot firearms before but never owned his own. I set up him target and started to load my mags. He wasn't done yet so I shot 17 rounds. His turn, he walks up and racks back the slide, pulls the trigger and .... nothing. He says something is wrong. I walk up tap rack pull BAM. I hand it back over. He pulls the trigger and nothing. He hands it over to me tap rack pull BAM. He pulls the trigger nothing. He hands it over I drop the mag.... filled with 9mm. :wow:

Just about the same thing happened to me last time I was at the range...we had a bunch of different pistols. I had my G23 and my buddy had his G32...he grabs the G23 to pop off a few rounds and pulls the trigger to what sounded like a cap gun going off and he states he feels little to no recoil and round does not hit target.
Yeah, he put a 32 mag in the 23....didn't cause any damage we could see and the 23 fired just fine afterwards...was afraid I may have to get a new barrel, but so far so good! Interesting that the round still had enough friction to leave the barrel at some rate of speed though... |

I know a man that ran a number of 270 rounds through a 30-06. Luckily it didn't hurt anything and the gun still grouped well afterwards. That is a little different situation from the 9mm in the 40 hole though since the 270 is simply a necked down 30-06.

Guilty of this with 9mm in my G27 at the range. Sounded like duds coming out (about 3 shots) and I had earplugs and electronic muffs so it was easy to mistake the dud sound with other people firing at the range also.

Do I have the sequence of events correct? If so, how do you explain what happened?:dunno: |
Funny story, I went over a friends house a couple years back to check out his new to him xd40, loaded up a mag, took it outside and fired them off. I pick up all my brass, so I proceeded to collect all the spent cases, then I started finding ballooned 9mm brass aswell.. I said to myself wait just a hot minute...
Went inside the house, Hey this is your first handgun right? "Yes" he replies. .. Sooo you don't own a 9mm correct? "Nope, why?" he says... Any reason why there would be 9mm brass in your yard? "No, there shouldn't be." Did you get to fire this gun at all yet? "I was shooting it earlier but it kept jamming so I gave up." :SMACKS FOREHEAD: Apparently the previous owner had sweetened the deal by throwing in ammo, and my friend assumed all the ammo was for that gun...well he won't be making that mistake again. Got 2.75 boxes of 9mm for my troubles. But to answer the question posed earlier, they pretty much looked like a reverse .357 sig with the bottle neck down to the rim. |
Caliber markings be damned. I shoot whatever I find.
