Fixed blade for "cross draw"

I've been searching for a Fixed Blade knife for "cross draw".

I'm right handed, and would like to wear it daily on my left side. (firearm stays IWB at 3:30)

I own a couple of pocket knifes, (two ZTs), would prefer this knife to be fixed, bone handle, damascus.

Budget $500 or less.

Any suggestions ?

NeverMore1701 02-26-2013 11:31

Custom.

Noles26 02-26-2013 12:18

Has to be custom made?

Most likely. The knife materials are relatively common but the sheath is not. Right off the top of my head a I cannot think of any production model knives that really meet your requirements. Your best bet would be to find the knife you like and then find a sheath maker with design you like.

With your budget it shouldn't be to hard. Want to design your own knife and have it built?

Just an example of the first thing I found close to what you were looking for. Priced at $300.

If I hadn't bought a ZT 0777 last week I would have bought that one when it came up this morning.

nursetim 02-26-2013 15:38

For EDC? For field carry? Size restriction?

I couldn't believe the price on it when I opened it.

Noles26 02-26-2013 15:56

EDC , less than 8 inches in length total, less than 1 1/2 in wide.

Prefer Damascus on Bone, but would consider a diff handle.

I'll carry it between the 1st and 2nd belt loop to the left of my belt buckle. The sheath, must fit my 1 1/2 in wide beltman belt.

NeverMore1701 02-26-2013 16:38

Yep, you want a custom. To Bladeforums!

nursetim 02-26-2013 16:40

Syntax's entry looks real good to me.

Very cool. Post up pics when you get a chance.

So, this fixed blade knife for cross draw seems to be for defense, but you want to spend $500 on looks? You can get a knife that will do anything the $500 one will do for $50-80, made in USA, from Ka Bar, Ontario or a few others. If the knife is for use, and not show, you are throwing away $450.

Does your bike have any chrome on it?

Not for nothing but a K-Bar has a rat tail tang where as the one pictured is full tang. That's a performance option. Soft carbon steel from a mass production factory... or hand built and heat treated one at a time.

Your single dimensions vision is blurred.

I bought a custom sheath for my little Buck 102 off ebay.

Its a nicely made sheath and of coarse is set up for cross draw.

OP, you feel the need for a large fixed-blade knife as well as a firearm? May I ask where you live?

Plan on avoiding it like the plague? :whistling:  :wavey:

NeverMore1701 02-27-2013 18:59

And that's actually a fairly small fixed blade, FWIW.

My bike is for show, as well as use. It isn't carried concealed. Both Ka Bar and Ontario have plenty of full tang knives - I'd buy the Ka bar Becker line or the ton of full length/width tang Ontarios over that. Ontario Tak, Blackbird, Ranger Shiv, etc., etc., etc.

So you're posting in the knife forum and you don't even know Ka Bar makes more than 100 knife models, both fixed and folding? Just the Becker and TDI lines shoudl give plenty of good choices for the OP.

None of which meet the users criteria. I do however own Becker and K-Bar knives. For the life of me I can't find one with bone or Damascus or where he stated it was for concealed carry or defensive use.

He also stated a budget of $500. Now you like budget knives I get that but like motorcycles people have varying tastes. Why try to convince someone who wants a Harley that they should get a moped?

I own a KaBar, it's my hog hunting knife.

I now own a custom made, Made in the USA by hand knife as well. I'll carry it for cross draw, defense, looks, style etc.

I don't own a Hi Point, Hyundai or live in a trailer because they'll "do". Or get the job done.

I own a H&K , E 350 and house because that's what I chose to spend my hard earned money on. Comfort wise, all three of my choices work perfect for me.

Not all that large :) And I'll be carrying it where I can not carry my firearm.

I live in Texas btw

I'd carry my 416 pistol if I could lol

jtull7 02-28-2013 16:42

OP. where in TX? I was born and raised in West Texas.
