Netscape "tabbed browsing" question.
 
I just transitioned to Netscape from IE. I notice that when I have a webpage open and then open another one it uses the same window. IE used to have a "re-use windows" box that you could uncheck to allow one to have seperate windows for each web page they were viewing. I used to be able to have multiple pages open at one time with IE. They would minimize to the bottom of the desktop. Now if I have 2 or more pages open and close the one I'm looking at by "X'ng" out it closes them all. I understand with Netscape you can use tabbed browsing that will allow you to have multiple windows open at the same time. How do you set this up?? I looked under options/tabbed browsing but it's not intuitive as to how to get it to work. Can someone give me an "idiots guide to setting up tabbed browsing in Netscape" tutorial?

is there a reason you are using netscape over firefox? firefox is the better option. or if you need/want email and the other programs integrated, get the current version of mozilla.

second, if you are opening multiple windows, you are defeating the purpose of tabbed browsing. in tabbed browsing you open one window, and then open multiple tabs in that one window. much easier to organize things in tabs than with a cluttered taskbar.

it sounds like your issue is coming from the fact that you are closing the entire tab bar, rather than closing the individual tab you no longer need. try closing the individual tab instead. normally, you can do this by simply double clicking the tab.

however, if you still want to use multiple windows, there is an extension for mozilla and firefox that will give you more control over your tab bar. you can get that here:

CTRL-T opens a new tab in Navigator.

Check out Mozilla 1.7 at mozilla.org on the web. Their site has lots of instructional material that also applies to Netscape.

Personally, I found Mozilla 1.7 to be a bit better than Netscape 7.1, especially in printing pages. Definitely worth the large download.

I've not tried firefox as it is still in beta (not for me).

The Mozilla suite is getting bloated...it's like Netscape (they use the same Gecko engine and share even more of the code).

If you want to ditch IE, go with Ronin's suggestion and use Firefox. Tabbed browsing is one of the best things I've found with Firefox....LOVE IT!

(Tip: click on links using the scroll wheel with your mouse. It opens them in a tabbed window)
