Possible new call sign

I may be getting a new British call sign.

Some years ago, when I became an attorney, I gave up the call I had since the mid 60's, WA5LNG, and took K5LAW.

I have been in communication with OfCom in the UK and, now that they have opened up the MAA-MZZ call sign block, they have agreed to hold for me the call M0LAW. If all goes well, in a couple of weeks, I'll be giving up G0JCZ, which I have held since the late 80's, for the new M0 call.

Maybe on my next trip we can have a "Glocktalk DXpedition contest."

More news as it happens....

It's now official! As of April 6th, my British call is M0LAW.

Looks funny, doesn't it? I guess it would look better with the slash through the zero.

Oh, well...

Now to get some dual callsign QSL cards printed with the M0 and K5 prefix and the LAW suffix.

Sheesh!

I see that you are all things "LAW" ;)

K5 Law and Mo'LAW indeed!

Now lets see... You need a K9 LAW and it'll all go to the dogs!

Maybe my son who has BBC as his last three in his call should try to get THAT one from the Brits? "M0BBC"? :)

Okay, it's late and this is as good as my humor gets... I'll shut up now ;g

Congrats on the new call!

Don't worry... I'm hanging on to G0JCZ, just in case I get tired of the idea. The Brits say I can keep both calls, as long as I pay for them every year.

Pup - M0LAW, congratulations on the new call, I see that your QTH is in Houston. Do you ever work any weak signal VHF when the bands open up? I am in Lafayette, LA and I worked Brownsville, TX on 2 meters a couple of weeks ago during a big tropo opening (approx. 800 km).

No, I don't have any big antennas up. I live in a townhouse now, and have virtually abandoned HF. I keep HTs in my briefcase and car for 2 meters, 70 cm and 1 1/4 meters, and I have a tri-band rig in my office with inside antennas for the same bands, but that's about it.

I did find a QRP CW rig for 17 meters in my garage that was given to me years ago and that I never took out of the plastic. I plan to put up a little portable dipole and try that out again. My CW is getting dismal...I'm sure I'm down to 15-18 WPM now. Since the band seems to be opening a little, maybe I can get it back up to 25 WPM with some dedicated weekend practice.

I'm monitoring 224.26 and 147.00 in the office, and, if I have a break when I hear someone, I usually say hi.
