I believe you are limited to 800 pixels wide but that is fine for most posting. Just use the IMG button and paste the photobucket link (like this http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y128/wi9ndy/hound_2sm.jpg) into the URL.

Hard to make out detail. Can you send it to me in it's largest resolution and I can try to trim it down within the GT size limits. And get a good view.

I haven't been down there for years.

It's new. It'll be open to the public when it's done. I drove by there last weekend and it looked like it was getting close.

Forgive my ignorance; is this part of the National Guard training area? I spent some time there training for the Civil Air Patrol and I didn't remember it being accessible to the public. It sounds like a neat range to visit.

I can't wait until they open up again! It looks like it's going to be really nice. The wait has been agonizing!

It is open the the public and is managed by Indiana DNR. There is an identical range facility in Huntington at the Edward Roush Resevoir. I havent' been at Huntington for about a year but I think you could shoot all day for $4-5.

Every 15 minutes or so there is a mandatory cessation of firing to allow people time to check\change targets. They are very strict about the safety rules which is a good thing. It's where I take my nephews shooting so that safety is drilled into their heads.

The Huntington facility has pistol ranges of, I believe, 10 and 25 yds (or maybe it's 25 and 50) and rifle ranges of 50 and 100 yds.

I should add that each facility costs about $1.5 million so it might be nice to drop the DNR a thank you note if you like the facilities.

It sounds like a nice place to shoot. I'll have to visit if I'm ever in the area.

My plant built the precast plank roofs for this. I work at a precast plant just East of Indy in Mt. Comfort. Neat to see an aerial view of it.

This release confirms the range to be managed by a private company. Listed is an individual and no company name.

Admission will be 1$ an hour.

The Kingsbury range is constructed the same as the said Atterbury range, just a little smaller. They offer 50 yard rifle, 100 yard rifle and 7,10, and 25 yard pistol ranges, archery ranges and a shotgun range as well. Skeet throwers are also provided at no extra charge. The cost is only a meer $4.00 per person all day.

As axel mentioned safety is paramount and it sounds like the Huntington range operates for the most part the same way as Kingsbury's range...

There is about a fifteen minute round of live fire, at one minute before a cease fire the range master will announce "One minute till cease fire." This will give you time to empty your magazine or unload your weapon(s).

At the cease fire.. "Cease fire cease fire, shooters, open all actions, unload and bench all firearms and step behind the yellow line."

The range master checks to be sure everyone has stepped back and then gives permission to go forward into the target area. After a few minutes he will announce "Shooters on my left ready? Shooters on my right ready?" This gives him and other fellow shooters to look out for one another to be sure everyone is clear down range. He will then announce you are clear to load and fire. Then the next cycle begins. There is to be NO handling of firearms during a cease fire period, at Kingsbury this is strictly enforced, that includes packing up to leave.

IMO the DNR has spent their money well constructing the ranges and training the range masters to provide a safe and enjoyable place to shoot.

I recall our range master saying it was about 1.5 million for the construction of our range as well. For the cost of admission and the safety of a manned range it's money well spent.

Ya gotta love Indiana. I wish there were a dozen more just like them.

Stopped into the range today and met Ron Mason. So far he seems like a good guy. I asked about some of his associations and he sounds like a shotgun Pro and not as much a hand gunner or black rifle man.
Through RNC and DNR this is a cold range. Do not wear your pistol into this facility. LEO on duty only are allowed to carry hot on facility. Defensive and or tactical handgun courses will not be held at this facility.
Hunting safety courses and shotgun classes may be offered at different times of the year.
Ron is getting a website built. DNR website is not accurate with updated info.

Tue-Sun 9-7 EDT
Wed-Sun 9-5 EST(I know there is a typo in here. This is what is on the flyer verbatem.)

36 @ 7, 15, and 25 yards
36 @ 50 feet (see note above)
20 @ 50 yards

I asked how long the lease was for and Ron said it was for a number of years and refused to say how many?

No family membership?
