Special Bullet load data (XPBs, etc.)
This is the thread to post loads with various company's powders for bullets that cannot be loaded with similar loads to other same-weight bullets, such as the Barnes XPB. Obviously, because of their construction, they have different loading requirements, so post these loads here.

These all copper bullets are substantially longer and occupy more casing capacity...using a powder charge weight for a lead core weight bullet will generate higher pressures with these longer bullets!

7.8 gr of 800x and the 95gr .40 caliber mini-ball, with the 135gr Nosler JHP on top. CCI 300 primers.
This closely resembles the DT 230gr Equilizer (duplex) load. I worked this load up very slowly, starting at 6.5 gr of 800x and working up .1gr at a time. My chrono won't function when two projectiles are firing through the screens. I think it'll do around 1125fps out of my Wilson CQB. Tom |
Other than Blue Dot flash, some smoke and a barrel requiring more cleaning than usual, am I pushing "Laser Cast" bullets too far with this load?
Laser Cast 180 grain TC with 11 grains of Blue Dot. Used CCI 300 LP primers, Starline Brass. Shot from a customized G20 - Lone Wolf 6" externally ported barrel, Wolff 24lb spring /SS guide rod, Wolff/Brownells competition spring set, Lightning Strike LP Trigger, and some dremel work. I found 10mm data for the Barnes 140gr TAC-XP on loaddata.com. 11-13gr of #7 and standard LP primers. With 12gr at 1395 fps. I loaded several mid-range loads in 400 cor bon at 12gr that were accurate without too much kick. Not sure what velocity these 140gr bullets need to fly to be effective(compared to Barnes 155gr bullet.).Corbon DPX in 40cal(140gr) has a velocity of 1200fps. I heard that Double Tap is coming out with a 140gr loading in 10mm at 1500fps.

I posted this info in the reloading section in an effort to provide some specs for the bullets...
I had wrote Barnes about acquiring a few samples of the bullets listed below to study their physical characteristics, because I knew that the solid copper bullets where longer that the lead core counter parts...Below is the measured data of the samples received. I must commend Barnes Bullets and thank them for these very nice bullets...:wow: Barnes Bullets (samples) TAC-XP FB 140 grain pn# 40005 10mm/40S&W 0.400” Total Length 0.680” Dia. 0.400” (Hornady 200XTP has Total Length 0.680”) (While not the same weight they are same length) Nose Outside Dia. @ HP 0.295” Nose Inside Dia. @ HP 0.220” Hollow Cavity Depth 0.380” TAC-XP FB 125 grain pn# 35503 357SIG 0.355” Total Length 0.720” Dia. 0.355” (ZERO 121 grain JHP has Total Length 0.550”) (Difference in length = 0.170”) Nose Outside Dia. @ HP 0.224” Nose Inside Dia. @ HP 0.180” Hollow Cavity Depth 0.303” After I do my load test I repost here... |
Shadow, I just ordered some 125gr Barnes TAC-XP bullets, and it got me looking around for load data. I see in your post above that you list the bullet length for the 125gr as .720", and the 140gr bullet at .680". Is that backwards? I can't imagine the 125gr bullet being longer than the 140gr.

21Carrier the data for the 125 grain I lised was for the 357Sig bullets at .720" length "NOT the 10mm 125gr." Sorry if there was any confusion!

Here's some load data using the Barnes TAC-XP bullet, Power Pistol, one load of Unique, and a G29 (stock barrel, 21lb spring). Barnes' PP max is 10.4gr, Unique is 8.4gr. All of these were with Starline nickel brass, CCI 300s, and a COAL of 1.250".

Here is some new data that I developed for the 125gr Barnes TAC-XP bullet. Out of my G29, I got 160fps MORE than ANY of Barnes data. The fastest I could get with Barnes data (Unique and Power Pistol) was 1300fps. With these 800-X loads, I hit 1460fps. Again, this is all out of my G29. I'm sure 1525-1550fps would be easy out of a G20. This load can almost certainly be increased. I do not think it is maximum. I ran out of bullets, and had to stop here (that's why there are only 3 chrono results per load, I'll test more soon), but case head expansion was minimal. I'm thinking this load could be pushed to 12.0gr or more, IF compression of the powder does not stop it. 11.4gr is VERY compressed, but I'm not getting bullet push-back, so I think I can go a bit further.
All loads used new Starline nickel brass, CCI 300 primers, Barnes 125gr TAC-XP bullets, and a COAL of 1.260". They were fired from my G29 with stock barrel, and 21lb Wolff spring. Temperature was around 90*, humidity about 70%, elevation 495ft. The chronograph is a Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital, all shots were fired from ~10ft. 10.5gr 800-X: 3 rounds -1393 -1366 -1388 Average: 1382 ES: 27 SD: 14 10.8gr 800-X: 3 rounds -1438 -1406 -1441 Average: 1428 ES: 35 SD: 19 11.1gr 800-X: 3 rounds -1452 -1400 -1479 Average: 1443 ES: 79 SD: 40 11.4gr 800-X: 3 rounds -1457 -1463 -1458 Average: 1459 ES: 6 SD: 3 |

Great data Carrier! Any powder preference - Unique, Power Pistol, 800-X so far with this loading? Cleaner burning, easier to meter etc.? Any thought to using a CCI-350 LPM primer?

Unless someone has verified Buffalo Bore's claims, I only
see them as "claims" and not fact. And whoever verifies it cannot ask BB for free ammo for testing. They have to be anonymous buyers. |

Did you see the bullet fragments?
http://i1086.photobucket.com/albums/...assfetcher.jpg This is what I was mentioning about over driving the HP type bullets, they open to their max expansion dia. then start to roll back on itself to a smaller dia. even shedding fragments, till it comes to rest. So in therory, is it better to reach total expansion rather than over driving the projectile to the point it rolls back and/or sheds its petals?
