Academy Sports 7.62x39 for $2.99 a box!
 

Just a heads up

Someone posted on another thread about picking up some 7.62x39 ammo at Academy for $2.99 a box -

I just got back from there - the $2.99 price is correct -

Its Monarch brand - and from what I have read it is made by Barnaul - they sell under their own brand and also manufacture Brown Bear.

It looks exactly like Brown Bear - which has always performed just fine in my AKs.

For what it's worth, that's all I've fired in my AK and it's good ammo.

In store is different?

The store by my house (Houston) had the old $4.86 price tag on the display shelf - I thought CRAP its not really true -

On my way out I passed by one of those electronic self check scanner things - and figured I was worth a shot - I took a box over and ran it under the scanner - it came up $2.99 - so I went back to the counter and ask if they had any cases that were not opened - they had 3 - so I left with all of them -

BTW they consider a case to be 25 boxes / 500 rounds.

Local store was running low, the clerk said they're clearing it out and won't be getting anymore (?)

Anyhow, they had 144 boxes. I was planning on buying 100 before I got there, but the wife recommended that I buy all of it, so I bought it to add to the 1k I had. I only have one rifle that fires 7.62 so I think I've got enough... for now.

Now I need more .223, 9m and .45.

Any idea of how I can order and have it shipped?

Academy does not do online ordering.

They've been having 700 round cans for $129 and 1000 round cases of Wolf for $179

Ammoman.com just put in a price increase - they are $209 a case now -("free" shipping still)

I ordered a case of Golden Tiger from them Thursday it was only $199 -

i bought 8 cases at the my nearby academy :D.....4k rounds, thats my obama stash

I am almost glad that Academy only had 3 full cases when I was there - Not sure I could have walked away and left any behind -

The guy at my store said it isn't a clearance, it is the sale price that will last "through December," and that the stores will be getting more. I want to believe him, mostly because I couldn't afford to clean out all they had at my store. They had pyramids of the little boxes built up on the gun counter, with a sign on top with the new price.

That's what I was also told also at my store in Abilene. That "CCTX", Chorpus or Colorado City?

But the 7.62x39 is made by Barnual - I know this is true because I have both sitting right here -

The packing case looks the exact same -

The inside box is the exact same style (only the printing is different)

The inside wrapper is the exact same

The bullet, primer & even the stamp on the bottom of the case is the exact same -

But look at the picture on the Barnaul web site - look close at pic #1 & 3 - I wonder why Barnaul has pictures of Monarch ammo on their web site?

Yea, myelf and a buddy went yesterday and bought 4000 rounds. It was marked on the shelf at $2.99. Good deal now days...

Went yesterday and had no luck. Everything was gone. However the guy told me to check back today since they were getting another load of stuff so we'll see!

Bought 2000 rounds yesterday...thats all the Academy near my office had in stock. Bought another 500 rounds at the store near my home...again...it was all they had left. Both stores said they were expecting shipments any day.

Cool...now I can drag the 4 SKSs out of the safe and lay off the 22s for a while. Happy, happy...joy, joy! LOL

If you talk to the right people they will hold some for you, when it comes in. I got 2,000 yesterday and have a total of 3,600 rounds. At this price It makes me want to get more.

I invested in .223 rifles: Sig 556 and Mini-14. Going to get rid of the Mini. I just dropped $259 on 1k rounds of 5.56 Wolf. Poking around on the internet for the last month and looking at this thread, I wish I'd gotten an AK.

Woot! The Academy got a lot more in stock so I purchased 2k rounds. Now they need to do the same deal with the .223 :cool:
