It's a Walmart policy, which can get even more strict depending on which one you go to. I'm from the Central Square area, and to buy pistol ammo at that Walmart, you had to have a permit with that caliber pistol tied to your permit.

For example, you need to have the pistol permit, AND have a 9mm pistol on that permit to purchase 9mm rounds.
