I wanted to do and did the same thing. I bought a pretty nice non drill mount. Would not do it again. I could never get it completely solid until I used a wire tie. Its bulky. Worst of all,It will scratch the heck out of where ever it touches.
Find a gun smith to tap the holes. It will be a quality mount and you will not be sorry like I have been.
