I have had excellent service from the following 9mm 1911's. Most of them were commanders.

Colt 9mm and 38 super, another 9mm on the way now
Colt Defender 9mm
Kimber, Aegis pro, and Tactical Pro
STI, Ranger and Guardian
Bul Transmark, Commander
Para LTC, very accurate, but had to have some reliability work to run right
For low budget it is hard to beat a Rock Island or a Star model B, BKM, or BKS

Springfield are great, but I have only owned them in 45acp

STI has a wide selection of 9mm pistols to choose from and they build a great pistol
