The number of off the shelf store bought rounds in 44 special are limited. So one needs to reload or be better financed than I am in order to keep them fed if you fire them more than infrequently. My favorite hand gun is an old model stainless Ruger Bisley Vaquero in 44 mag. Using 2 hands, due to my short thumbs, the gun can be quickly emptied.

Depending on your preferences you might look at both the double action and single action revolvers offered by Sturm-Ruger. They build guns that can take a beating and keep on shooting.
