I think it was Delta that had a mishap very similar to this, back around 1989, in Pensacola, FL. The empennage broke, but did not actually separate from the fuselage. I knew someone who was on the plane. The passengers had to walk from the runway to the terminal, and I'm not sure if they ever got their luggage back. I don't think the NTSB would let them offload any cargo until the investigation was over.

Talk about a bad flight!;P
