I received this reply from my Rep. today:
Thank you for your e-mail and your concerns. However, I believe there is some confusion. HB 1744 is a "crimes code" bill that increases the penalty for those who "knowingly" possess a stolen firearm (receiving stolen property -- ie... a criminal act). The bill also authorizes the Attorney General the ability to enforce current gun laws (which are already on the books). Quiet frankly, this is a common sense bill that does not affect law abiding citizens (gun owners) and this is why it passed the Judiciary Committee unanimously.

ETA: n3hcp, thanks for the response and clarification. I was not aware of that definition, although nothing is stopping them from redefining the term "firearm" in the future.
