First, I apologize to the original poster of "Is this normal" for borrowing your photos. I could not get one of my own. And I could not reply to original post for some reason.
If this is normal slide peen, why does my 17 not do it and my 22 does? More recoil? Will it get worse? Can I do anything to stop it?

Slide peening is more common in the 40's
Some guns exhibit more peening than others but there is nothing to worry about.
No you can not stop it. It will happen or it wont but you got nothing to do with it either way.
Once again, don't worry about it.
