S&W M&P 9c
Hello, I just purchased a used s&w mp 9mm compact, I'm planning to go to the range later this week, and I would like some suggestions for ammo that I should use, because, I've heard the winchester 9mm target ammo caused jams in the mp 9c. When i purchased my m&p it came with a soft holster and the two mags with no additional straps, I would like some suggestions where I could buy the m&p backstraps.
Thank You

I'd still try WWB from WalMart if forced to buy/use factory ammo...

I haven't had any problems with a variety of ammo through my new M&P9c, but shoot mainly Miwal 124gr. fmj (new, not reload) at the range. got a great deal on a large quantity buy but have tried WWB and Speer 124 GD's for SD. I have heard of problems with some guns (mainly FTE's) with 115gr., but for range not a problem. If they work for you, fine. I wouldn't carry (sd) any less than 124gr. premium HP's, though. The M&P9c is a great shooter and great customer service if anything goes wrong.

My M&P 9C has worked fine with any 9mm I've fed it. I've used the full spectrum of normal bullet weights including 115, 124, and 147 -- worked fine with Win +P+ 127 too.

My M&P 9C has a definite preference for hotter 124 gr ammo. Loves imported RWS ammo. Feed it wimpy rounds like Remington green box 115 grainers and there might be problems.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions for ammo and backstraps, I can't wait to get to the range, I'll report my first time at the range.

Please, no offense but...
I have a M&P 9MM full size and is the 9 c all that much smaller? Not a stupid question. I have not seen one.
I shot my usual Defensive Carry match tonight with my M&P and I carried it in an OWB with a Hawaiian shirt to cover. Stopped at the liquor store and got gas and paid inside, yada, yada. No one saw my full size.
So really. Is the 9c all that much smaller? I know the barrel is shorter and the grip is too but the real issue is width and they are the same. If you carry a 9c have you tried a full size?
I ask this because I have a full size for carry and a M&P 9MM Pro for matches and they feed anything. They are the most dependable pistols I own, they just flat out never let me down. If there is a good reason I'll buy a 9 Compact.

The compact mp 9 and fullsize mp9 are basically the same, when i purchased the mp9c there was an fullsize mp9 for sale as well, the grip is obviously different from the two, but you could barely tell the difference between the two in overall length, the mp9 fullsize is a less than an inch bigger than the mp9c.
Im not a big fan of fullsize, but I've had a hk usp fullsize 40, I like the compact feel, so I have the hk usp 45 compact tactical as well. Which is your favorite out of the match and the fullsize?
I haven't been to the range yet, Ive carried it a few times and it feels more comfortable than my hk usp compact tactical.

Hummm, very tough question.
The full size has a 4.25" barrel and I added Novak red fiber optic sights. I shoot it well and the medium grip is just perfect. I use to use it for USPSA and IDPA.
The Match is a 9 MM Pro with a 5" barrel and a green fiber optic front sight. Plus a different trigger and sear. It is way, way fun to shoot and I do better in USPSA and IDPA with it. The lighter trigger and a longer sight line helps. Plus in a match full of Production Glocks I'm different.
I guess I need a M&P 9 c.

I just added one to my collection this week. There is a 50 dollar rebate or 2 free magazines.

I have a full size and a compact and the compact almost never gets carried. It's nice to have though just in case and it really shoots nice for it's size.

I shoot IDPA once per month and my full size and compact M&Ps both prefer the Federal 115 gr ammo (same as Z71 was talking about). I buy them at Wal-Mart for less than $10 per box.....cheapest stuff, yet shoots the best for me.....win-win!
