Glock's plastic sights sturdy?

I take it, Glock's plastic sights are sturdy enough for daily carry, correct? I mean thousands of police carried them everyday. Do I need steel sights? I did a search and really didn't come up with anything.

I'd suggest getting some night sights if that's going to be your daily carry gun. They are steel.

My G19 still has its original plastic sights since 1996 when I bought it, and it gets carried everyday!

i'm sure if their polymer frames can withstand the abuse the night sights can.

The night sights are steel.

Glock also offers steel fixed sights but I think you have to order them (they did come on the Austrian proofed G19s of Obamamania though).

Every police officer I know has night sights on their pistol, so I'm not sure how many carry with the plastic sights. If you look at people who shoot a lot (and I mean thousands of rounds) like Hickock45, if they aren't having problems with the plastic sights, you probably won't either. I think the strength of the mounting on the slide is as if not more important than the strength of the sights themselves.

Glock wouldn't use the sights they do if they weren't durable, durability is essential to their brand's reputation, you'll be fine, but you should get factory night sights anyways.

Plastic sights suck. I once had a mishap at the range and the pistol fell off the bench hit the concrete breaking the front site off basically. They are not durable and I do not know if they would hold up the one handed racking method of taking the rear sight and pressing it against a hard surface like your holster or table or something to rack the slide in case your other arm is disabled. Get some steel sights (night sights) when you order the gun.

Even if you dropped metal sight on a hard surface, there is a possibility that they might break. The front site is only held in by o tiny screw. I would get glock night sites though. Tennifer treated and pretty much warranted for life.

Not if your life depended on them.
Practice drawing and doing everything with your support hand unless you are just a target shooter and pretty soon you will find the need to rack the slide for a new mag reload on.......your belt?...your pocket?... your wheel rim?...anything that will grab the rear sight and reload. The plastic sights cant take that. You gonna use your teeth to get that slide back from the full mag? You are about to join the dead.

I have the standard poly sights of both my carry Glock since 1996. To me they are fantastic for quick target acquisition and 2 nd and 3 rd followup shots.
