All that for only $600.00, a lost career and jail time?????? Sounds like she's done this before. She isn't a police officer, she's a perp carrying a badge.....Good riddance to her......

I can't believe she was suspended w/ pay. Frankly, Taxpayers in DC should be outraged by that. I'm not saying every time an Officer gets suspended, their pay should be yanked, but this would seem to be a clear reason to suspend w/o pay (assuming the article is accurate).

This happens more often than you think.

Yeah. My agency would have suspended her without pay.

The only way you get suspended without pay in my agency is if you commit a felony.

I'm gonna speculate it is more of a paid administrative leave pending investigation kind of thing. Hard to justify not paying her until she is convicted or makes some admissions which would be indicative of a violation of law or policy; after all "innocent until proven guilty" applies.

They do that so the person can never fight to get any backpay, once he/she is fired. Generally it's a GOOD sign that an officer will eventually be cleared in my agency, when they are suspended without pay (less serious offenses like certain policy violations). Once they are reinstated, they almost always then receive 100% of lost wages. If it's a fire-able offense, the officer usually keeps their pay until termination.

It all depends on their rules/regulations when it comes to suspensions. Where I work we need to be suspended for at least 30 days with pay before we are suspended without pay.

It all depends on the agency and their rules/guidelines/ labour laws. For us we have to be suspended with pay for 30 days before we can be suspended without pay. This is written in legislation (BC Police Act).

She's going to claim "that she was trapping the criminal in an illegal act" and going to arrest him.

(What else could she say?)

I suspect that after hearing a few accounts of the fun and games some female COs have enjoyed in my little neighborhood, your own back yard might not look so bad. And then there is the occasional story of a gay male in a male prison camp. Makes me mad enough to eat a skunk just thinking about it. And we wear the same uniform.

There most definitely is such thing as a thug with a badge.
