Navy Cammie Pattern.
Why did the navy go with the navy cammie pattern? does it not make it difficult to find a man overboard if he or she has the same silhoutte/color/pattern as the dark blue sea?
I got a lot of flack from some Marine buddies at work about this.

I love the new Navy cammies. Wish I was still in so I could get a few sets LOL! From what I've read, the colors were chosen to reflect Naval tradition and hide grease, oil, grime stains.
Anyway, I think they look great. Maybe your jarhead buddies are just jealous.

I went to look them up...stumbled onto someone saying they turn orange in the water?
Never mind, it was a joke.

4 most common colors of paint in the Navy supposedly. I think sea foam green has to make the top 4 myself. The NWU's are designed to hide paint spills, and grease/oil stains. Why I need a uniform that tops out over $100 to paint in I have no idea. What ever happened to the greenies that we used to field day in?
Doing some field training this week we were supposed to get marine marpats but supply messed up so we are going into the woods of SC in NWU's. Hopefully blueberries are in season so we can blend in with them.

Isn't the better question: Why did the Navy re-invent the wheel with the NWU design and why did they release a uniform without any of the accessory uniform items? I know that they were just carrying out the form that they used for the PT uniform. Yeah, the one that can't be washed in the ship's laundry and didn't have any form of long pants or jacket. I guess in DC, they only PT and work in the summer.
I just hope and wish for some LEADERS to show up in DC and replace the managers that are doing a poor job there now.

just remember that a bunch of sailors slotted Bin Laden. Not a Marine, Ranger, or Delta... a bloody squid with an AR. 2 shots and they change history.
I wonder if Seal Team 6 has UBL's shorty AK rifle. That would look good in their mess hall.

Whiners...if you'd have had to wear those "Shawshank Redemption" belbottom pants and shirt with your name stenciled on it, like I did for 10 years, you'd probably be complaining too.
Although it happened long after I separated, I think it was a good thing that the Navy gave their enlisted some respectable uniforms to wear.
The working uniform was one of my biggest complaints when in. It was a prison-dungaree uniform and made us look like clowns, and I'm happy they commissioned some uniforms that sailors can be proud to wear.
For work-details that are greasy and grimy, coveralls should be worn..
I'd much rather take this:

I couldn't agree more. Well said! The NWU is a FAR better uniform than the dungarees.

As cammie as they might be, you aren't that invisible when you are on deck of thousands of tons of gray painted ship.........

In medium to high seas you can't see a man anyway so the color doesn't matter.
(that's a joke son)
