Best glock for gssf?
Ive got a 26; recently found out that a local shop hosts monthly gssf shoots. I can use my 26 but I was thinking about picking up a 17 or 34. I'm thinking 17 since it would be easier to carry and has a lot Eire holster options.

I have both the G17 and G34. I shoot both well but prefer the G17 for matches where I am drawing from a holster.

I prefer my G34 over my G17 ( I have both).
In the indoor matches you can use the G34.
In the outdoor matches, you can't use the 34 in the Am Civ division (the most popular). So I use my G17 in Competition division and Am Civ. I've won $275 with that gun in my last two outdoor matches (two second places and one third this last weekend).

All around? A 26.
For one thing, you can shoot the 26 in subcompact, am. civ., etc., but you can't shoot a 17 in subcompact (I have only shot major outdoor GSSF matches, so I'm assuming the same divisions and rules apply to yours). For another thing, I've ROed a few matches and shot a few and what I find is that I and many - probably most - shooters score higher with the subcompact than with the full-size guns on the same course of fire. I don't have a great explanation for it, but I've seen it time and again, as have many others.
Get started with the 26 and buy another one after you get some experience, if you want.

Ive heard the same thing...apparently the subcompacts have been whipping up on the longer pistols! There are many theories on this, but none of them seem to hold much water in my mind...

I shoot the same times with my carry 26, with trijicon 3-dot nights sights as I do with my 17 with Warren/Sevigny sights with the fiber optic front.
So, I don't know the theory of why the 26 shoots just as fast either, just my reality.
I also have a 34 Gen4 inbound, so we'll see how I do with that this year.

+1 for the 26.
For me, at least, I tend to shoot it better, and it qualifies for more divisions.
The only other thing I'm thinking about doing is getting a .45 to shoot in a division with fewer entrants, thereby increasing my chances of winning ....

Same here. My best theories are that aiming is faster with the short slide and that, since a common accuracy problem is milking the grip with the lower fingers of the strong hand, giving those fingers less to hold onto helps keep the gun on target.

The point I was trying to make is that a longer grip makes you feel like you have more control, but it doesn't make you shoot better and may make you shoot worse.

G34 is a good shooter,hard to beat.
I shot 50 yds with mine and groups were decent.

17 will let you shoot in the basic gssf division, the 34 will limit what gssf divisions you can shoot in. holsters are plentifully available for both (serpa blackhawk or bladetech doh). 17 better for carry as shorter.
34 definitely better if you will get into idpa or uspsa, which frankly are funner than gssf. it is the most used gun in these games.
but if you want to carry, i'd stick with the 17 as it definitely works in gssf, idpa and uspsa.

I wanna say the 17, but I'm gonna say the 26. I borrowed one for the Griffin match this past weekend and shot a personal best with it. Sooooo...... I used my coupon as soon as I got back Monday to buy this

Cna you run grip extensions on g17 mags on the g26 and still qualify for the same division?

here are gssf rules regarding your question:
Allowable Modifications to “Stock” 1. “Hogue Grip”-type sleeves, “A-Grip” panels,
“skateboard tape” or other grip-enhancing
materials that do not materially alter the
function of the stock firearm
2. Slide and barrel stripping and/or refinishing
3. Pearce Grip, Inc. grip extenders only on G26,
G27, G29, G30, G33, G36 and G39 magazines
4. Aftermarket replacement non-metallic base
plates on magazines
5. Post and notch sights (“patridge” sights)
excluding any sight requiring slide
modifications. Please note that fiber-optic
and “express” sights are approved.
You may use any combination of GLOCKproduced
firearms parts that do not result in a
significant competitive advantage in the Stock
divisions and that are, in the sole opinion of the match armorer, safe to utilize.

If you mean grip SLEEVES, then no, you cannot use them.
