How to stop the Siverado popup

Sorry if this is the wrong place, please move if it is. How do you stop the damm Silverado ad from popping up. I click the x but the thing keeps coming back after I read any posts. I am really getting fed up here.

Make sure of two things: you are logged-in (check the top-right corner of each page you are on for the "Welcome, username." message), and that your browser has cookies enabled. If you are not logged-in, the board thinks you are a new visitor every time you move forward (or back) to another page; if you do not have cookies enabled, the board cannot track you from page-to-page and the same thing happens. Either way, you will get the ad over and over again. Otherwise, you shouldn't see it more than 2 or 3 total times per visit/day.

I'd like to point out refreshing the page until it goes away seems to work a lot better

Adblocker. Or the people running this place could see how many people it pushes away and do away with it. Do we really need to be like a porn site from the 90's???

This. Get rid of it please mods/site owner!

ETA: Just installed the Adblocker in Firefox. Seems to work ok. Still,
get rid of the d@#m pop up. No other forum I hang out on has any.

Why don't you put your attitude in check and take OUT your wallet.

Paying members don't have pop-ups to contend with.

Running this place costs money and yet the freeloaders always have a gripe.

I donated and still get the Silverado popup all day long...something is amiss! I'm logged in and box checked, cookies enabled.

Also, I don't like Chevy Trucks

I can't take out my wallet, so I just keep my mouth shut. After I finish my degree, I'll gladly bust out my checkbook. This place is a great resource.

You seem to forget the fact that the internet is filled with thousands upon thousands of forums, communities and etc.

While you have a point in that running a website costs money, there are ways to advertise products without using popups. Right Now I'm looking at a steel diamondplate texture on either side of this actual "forum", why the hell couldn't they put ads there? It's annoying not because it's an ad but because it's a pop up.

As far as pulling out your wallet, it's not about whether or not we can afford it it's about a personal sense of what is worth the money and what isn't. If something is worth my money, it is because it is a good product. I will NOT reach for my credit card because a company decides to change it's business model to carpet bombing me with spam, ask me to buy a membership, and not offer anything else over the original service.

Is the chevy ad "carpet bombing anybody?" no, but it's annoying and while I don't usually consider "slippery slope" arguments valid, I see a reason to worry because I've seen it happen before.

An example is the Spamminess of the Xbox 360 dashboard compared to what it used to be.

Also, your comment about "keeping attitudes in check" is a bit much dude, no personal offense but honestly.

You have 40 posts and you're an expert on this board.

I've been here a lot longer than you and like I said, paying members don't see ads. You expect the same level of service as those who ante up. Well, like anything in life you get what you pay for. This isn't Occupy Wall Street.

If the ads bother you so much and you aren't willing to contribute to keep the lights on then there's the door. Feel free to use it.

If I had any sway with Eric at all, the board would be accessible to paying memberships only.

No freeloading allowed. We'd be dealing with a better class of poster.

Can the pop up adds be moved to the side as to not cover the content. Thank you administrators. Very happy with the GT aside from popups.

Today I haven't seen even one popup.

Yesterday something must have gone wrong, because I saw a popup on each and every screen.

I don't mind the Ruger and Cheaper Than Dirt popups as much as the usual propaganda from Obama's Government Motors; their repeated presence steels my resolve to oppose them at every opportunity, until they go bankrupt as they deserve.

Normally I see only two popups per day, and it's not a problem to click twice.

When you guys start paying the bills I'm sure Eric will be more than happy to let you pick the ads.

From another thread about the same subject.

It could be for a price.....

You see it costs money to run the site. Money from paying members, and money from the fund-raisers to raise the dough it cost to keep the lights on.

As it stands now you have three options.

1. Pack up and leave.
2. Live with the minor inconvenience of ads that helps keep the forum running.
3. Become a paying member. As paid members don't see the pop up.

As a bonus option. I suppose you could run a pop-up blocker.

The Silverado add never bothered me and I could just click to turn it off and go on. But in the last few days it hangs up my computer for several minutes every time it pops up- when the add pops up something called "flowplay" player also pops up and hangs my computer. I'm using Firefox 12.0

Now the Chevy popup ads don't have any way of turning them off? Just this morning, the popups came up a few times, but there was no "x" to click to shut them off. Do they stop coming up after a certain amount of times or something? (because it is not on my screen right now...)

The close button is blocked on the right hand side.

Also noticed that the banner is much larger now.

Any other site that I have been on if people start talking about something like this a lot it gets changed. Just sayin.

its changing me forever. everytime i see a chevy truck, it reminds me of this GT ad and reinforces why i will not buy one.

i understand the need for advertising, but its got to be having a negative effect for chevy trucks. or maybe its just me?

now where is my wallet to upgrade my membership.

Once again, buy a membership and the ads go away.

OR go to one of the other sites you speak of and hang out there instead.
