PSA Receiver
So, I've been wanting to do a build for a while. I just ordered a "blemished" receiver from PSA. I had to start somewhere.
What next? Looking for something simple reliable under $1k, 16", and of course accurate.
Any suggestions?

I would build it with PSA lower build kit, enhance to the Magpul kit I would recommend, and then top it with a mid length complete upper. PSA was running some sales on their middys (and may still be)-- the 2 I got have been awesome. You could get a premium upper with the BCG and CH pretty easily for 600 bucks(ish) delivered, and you would not have 725 in the whole thing. Grab some Magpul 30 round mags from one of the half dozen places with free shipping, at less than 15 bucks per mag, throw in a rear sight (like an MBUS) and run the snot outta it!

Thanks for the input. Once I get this in my hands I will get antsy and probably get I finished quickly. I may go ahead and start getting parts ordered so everything is here when I need it. Thanks again!

Also a good option! But since the budget is 1k, might as well use it up

Palmetto State Armory is a good place to start, their shipping is abysmal, but their prices are damn near unbeatable.
But if your budget is 1k, you should look at Bravo Company. They have top notch stuff for great prices. You can start with the complete Lower Build Kit from Palmetto state in either classic M4 stock, or my personal choice, the MOE Stock. Pick out your BCM upper, BCG, and Charging handle, and you're good to go!
Lower Build Kit = $144.99 + Shipping
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...build-kit.html
This will be everything you need to complete your blem lower from PSA, assuming they don't screw up your order
BCM Upper Receiver = $439.00 + Shipping
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-1...urg-mid-16.htm
BCM Charging Handle = $44.95 + Shipping
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-1...urg-mid-16.htm
BCM BCG = $159 + Shipping
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-B...0auto%20mp.htm
Total= $850 w/o shipping including the $60 for the lower. Attach any free float rail you'd like and call it a day.
With the parts listed above, you should have a accurate and extremely reliable gun. Hope this helps

You would do fine just getting a PSA 16 inch mid length upper. You could spend more and get a BCM, some guys get hard ons having a BCM logo on the side of their rifles. BCM barrels aren't any better than the FN barrels PSA uses.
I would save the rest of your 1k budget for a Aimpoint Pro and ammo.

Agreed. I have 4 PSA middys and have never had an issue with any of them. The FN barrels are top notch.

I believe PSA's bolt carriers are made by ToolCraft, the same people who's making FN bolt carriers (And generally everyone elses...)
They are GTG.

You can't go wrong with PSA or BCM. I've been impressed with both.
My 16" mid length from PSA was perfect, round after round was right on the money( my rear sight needs adjusting. But that has nothing do with PSA). They are running sales constantly just check everyday and catch one.
Got tons of looks and people coming up to me on the range checking it out. Lots of 'that's NICE' etc.

So, PSA is out of bolt carrier groups. Do I wait, or do I look for an alternative?

I splurged and went with a BCM full auto BCG. That is one area where I will splurge again, love it.
Flawless function- extraction was excellent- much to the chagrin of those to right of me lol. Built like a tank.

You're welcome! I also recommend their Gunfighter Charging handles...

ok...you already ordered. But this is what I'd have gotten for 999 bucks:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...e-package.html
Complete WITH Aimpoint. Not a mid-length, but a sweet rifle as is.

I remember two months ago when I tried to do the whole 1K AR thing. Now that I'm sitting around 2200 I think I might be done... until tax returns. Also trying to find a 6.8 upper or complete rifle for budget pricing. I've suprisingly held out 2 weeks to this point. We'll see how long this lasts.
Good luck and keep us updated.

So, I've received the BCG from Bravo and received notification of the upper and lower stripped receiver shipping via UPS from PSA, should be here Friday. Now, if I had the lower build kit from PSA I could get started this weekend. I'll post pics once I get started if anyone is interested.

How long was the wait time until they shipped your upper? I'm currently at 13 business days waiting on mine...
PSA has great products and prices but their shipping times aren't very good (plus I'm incredibly impatient). I just wish that they would concentrate more on the items that they've already sold instead of having so many daily sales specials.

I should have told you you can buy lower parts kits from PK Firearms and they ship the same day.
You will be waiting a while for PSA...
