Question for the Unlimited Shooters

I just picked up a G34 in a trade and due to the grip stippling will put it in Umlimited for GSSF. I am thinking about some kind of porting and am wondering if a ported barrel that vents through the slide opening will be anywhere near as effective as a good comp.

not even close. 34 has slower slide speed if that factors in to your shooting. Run a good comp and a slow to medium powder. I like Power Pistol and HS-6. Would like to try Auto Comp but will wait till I use up what I have.

Honestly, I would run a Carver 3 port comp on a threaded KKM barrel with a Carver Stainless guiderod and a Wollf 10 pound round wire spring. I would also add a Carver competition mount, lower my ejection port and add a CMore SlideRide. Bet ya didn't see that coming huh? LMAO

Thanks Mike. All kidding aside I was leaning in that direction. Not ready for the C-More at this point though. Do you have a recommendation for factory ammo for this setup? Fed Wally World? WWB? Not reloading right now.

I think the other issue with the comp is it needs to be pinned. California doesn't like threaded barrels for some reason.

For Steel or GSSF loads a 3 or 4 port comp works well. For USPSA 9 major I run a SJC 7 port on Glocks, Bedell on my 2011. Running a comp takes a bit of tayloring the load to run the comp. Running a comp and factory ammo is not the best way to take advantage of what the comp can do. If you run factory get some NATO 9mm and see how it shoots.

For GSSF in my Carver Unlimited gun I am using WWB 115gr without any problems.

I would run WWB 115gr with the setup I described. But Ed is correct, the best way to take advantage of your compensator is to use reloads. A powder like HS6 or AutoComp is best, run a 115 or 124gr bullet (whichever you feel gives you the best accuracy), and load hot to get the most performance out of your comp.. I'm currently running a 124gr FMJ over 7 grains of HS6 at 1.135. Pretty hot load, doesn't make major but it could be described as +p..
