So would it be made with Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream?
I make mine with Dryers Vanilla, whole milk, Hersheys syrup.

Try making chocolate milk shake using egg nog and chocolate syrup. It's really rich and creamy.

When I was a teenager I worked in a Carvel Ice Cream Store. A Chocolate shake made with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and milk was called a Black & White. Straight chocolate shake was with chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup, and milk.

go to Hollys
if you are on rt50 and cross the bay bridge over the north end of the bay look for the signs. They make their own ice cream and the shakes have been good for years.
The food is also worth the stop.

Brought back childhood memories there, Eddie. I don't miss much about New York, but Carvel is one of them.

Yeah I even met Tom Carvel one time. He was a piece of work. Really a nice guy.He called the store one night and said "Can you bring four sundaes to the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport, CT. I was like "We don't deliver!" He said "This is Tom Carvel and I have some people with us and would like some sundaes" I told my brother who was the manager "Why not?" "It's worth a shot, let's go" We went and who opened the door to the hotel room? Tom Carvel. You know who was with him? Besides his wife. Bob and Delores Hope. They were putting on a show at the Jai Alai Fronton in Bridgeport. They gave us a $20.00 dollar bill for 4 $1.35 sundaes. Too cool.;f

The Best bought Chocolate milk shake is at Steak & Shake. But Arby's comes in a pretty close second.

I strongly disagree. Fuddruckers chocolate shakes are awesome. They're so thick your lungs will lock up if you try to drink one through a straw! ;f ;f ;f

Fuddruckers is a great place--their bakery is awesome, particularly considering they're basically a fast food joint. Good ice cream, brownies, and cookies.
Their food is pretty darn good, too.

Funny story about the late nite delivery. Let me see, you and your brother got a WHOLE $20, between you, out of two multimillionaire families. Dude, you really hosed them, huh?;f BTW, around these parts, the local premium ice cream godies are from Graeter's--IIRC, President Reagan used to ask for it by name. Not that I'm claiming this brand to be best; any decent ice cream just gets its grade curved to a "10" by my rating sysyem...

I have to ditto the Fuddrucker's shakes. They are the best "retail" shakes I've had.
Personally, it's french vanilla, hershey's syrup, whole milk, and malt made with a Braun hand-held mixer.

Yeah Brian, but at the time with my brother and I making about $2.50 an hour each, a $15.00 tip was three hours pay apiece to run those four Ice Cream Sundaes 5 minutes away;f
Now that you mention it.............we did get ripped! Hahaha!

I'm kinda finicky...but I do like Johnny Rockets.
If I'm making one for myself I use Hagan Daaz Chocolate ice cream, Baily's Irish Creme, a few drops of real cream then I hit it with the stick-blender.
