VA gun laws regarding transfering guns in a car?

If I'm going to a range to shoot, can I load my guns and magazines (but not in the chamber) and put them in the trunk? I don't have the CCW permit.

I believe the correct answer is.

You can have the mags loaded, if you have the gun loaded it needs to be in plain site so the trunk would be out.

Send a message via AIM to Sporwick
It must be in plain sight unless you have a conceal permit.

You may carry the unloaded firearms in the trunk.

You may also carry the ammunition in the trunk.

johnydoe,
long guns, handguns or both? You said, "magazines," but I hate to assume HGs.

Long guns may be regulated by local ordinance. I don't think you'll be in trouble anywhere in VA., with any arm, following Marinr's suggestion.

I'm going to do a little research before saying more... I know validation will be demanded on what I was about to type. fish and sporwick give good advice, but I think they're technically askew.
