The current EGA was adopted in 1954 so it'd have to be before that. Google it up.

The Original EGA emblem was adopted in 1868 by
*Brig. General Jacob Zealin, 7th Commandant, USMC
If you re-read your question you don't specify what you want exactly. That or I just miss-read and apologize for insulting you.

http://www.grunt.com/scuttlebutt/cor.../usmceagle.asp
on the web link its the 16th paragraph down
Regulations of 1920 prescribed gilt finished and bronze screw back ornaments for cap, hat and collars, replacing WW-I collar disks with a standard EGA, without rope.

to- rpm3521usmc- no apology needed, however my question does ask when the rope
on ega was added and i believe it was answered by several respondents. the reason i asked for info is because i found 2- ega collar emblems with no rope and knew that they
were different from the ones issued to me in the 60 ties- so thanks to all for their
imput.... semper fi
