Upgrade Suggestions
If you have any ideas about improvements to the site, or to things I am doing please share them here. If you have seen features or functions on other such sites that you would like to have here, this is the place to post about it. Please do not post comments here about what you think of the changes being made, folks. Eric

Eric, is there a way to hide certain avatars or signatures?
I know we have an option to turn off all avatars or all signatures, but I was wondering if, instead of placing someone on the ignore list because I don't like the avatar or signature, I could have an option of turning that off for specific members.

I'll look into it, but my first thought on it would be that it would carry with it quite a bit of overhead. It isn't a bad idea though. I'll kick it around. Eric

Maybe A download section for wallpapers or manuals ect? Also maybe an option on the bottom of the forum or in the USER CP to use different color schemes.
P.S.
How about a friendly Glocktalk radio?? I seen some forums and websites that have this

In all my years on the net, this is the first site I've ever paid a membership fee for.
I did it because I believed I was supporting a worthwhile cause that was struggling and in danger of failing.
I came in at the top tier hoping it would give me benefits unavailable to others, and because the cost was reasonable to be top tier and if I was going to support GT, I was going to go as far as I could financially. At the time, it was a rash expense I regretted almost immediately.
I'm glad I did it now, but for a while, I could have really used that money elsewhere.
Since I have never been a member of any premium site, not even porn, I keep waiting to see what useful benefits come with my CLM.
My expectations where high because my level of commitment was also high.
So far, I'm under-whelmed.
I guess I expected too much.

Jim, did you read my first announcement in this forum, or the messages posted at the top of the two threads you have no responded to in this forum? You've now shared this comment twice and it had no place in either thread. I am working to improve this site and I am asking for comments that are directly related to the upgrades I am undertaking. If you have comments to make on your membership, have the courtesy to take them up with me directly. Not here.
Guys, I will ask once again that comments in this forum remain on-point. Eric

I liked the ability to change the colors on other sites. One I liked the best was simple color schemes: blues, grays, black/white, pinks, etc. You picked the color and the whole site changed. After I had been reading a while, it was nice to switch to something else when my eyes started to get tired.
Thank you for the notifications being back, especially unread PMs in the UserCP.

What about an archive site for old threads? Maybe have a separate search engine for the archives, so it doesn't bog down the regular system, but still be available?

Another thought.. A lite or mobile version? I know a lot of folks log on using a mobile device. I know I use Opera Mini on a Blackberry Curve but even that can be slow.
A subdomain that pulls the DB to a super simplified style perhaps? You could also just run a browser check and redirect from there.

If I get the computing power to spare. Right now, the server couldn't handle it.

That is on the to-do list, probably as an added paid member service.

We will have a limited variation of this functionality here. Eric

Maybe somthing like www.msn.com has. If you look at the right corner of the screen they have "page options" not a bad idea.

I understand.
Eric, at one point you had mentioned possibly dedicating a corner of GT to those that have passed on. Is that still in the works? Also, a list of those who have been banned - more morbid curiosity than anyting else.

I have already wasted enough time on those that had to be banned and would probably not doing anything to aggrandize them, but I do want to do something for people who have passed on. I have a user group for them and already have a number that I have found out about set up there. This way, if someone who know them search for them on the site, they'll know they have died. I'll do more, when I can. The problem is, I know little or nothing about most of them.
On an ironic and somewhat related note, I recently moved my first person from the banned list to the deceased list. I heard about a formerly-banned member who passed. That is the first time THAT has happened. Eric

A site I just joined, that seems to be using vBulletin, has a chat servlet that hooks into the membership system. I fondly remember the days when GT had a chatroom. It'd be nice to have one again.

I'm not sure why I find that slightly humorous but I do.

I don't know how hard this would be to do, but how about a way to reorganize the forum list on the main page. It's not a big deal, just with all of the forums we have now it can sometimes be easy to miss the on I'm looking for.
Another option would be a customizable GT start page. You could have you favorite forums listed, stuff like that.
Like I said, not a big deal, just something that would be cool.

Is there a way to notify the Moderators quickly when you have a request? I have been trying for about 2 weeks now to get my handle change to Wake County Glockman. If that is too long Wake Co. Glockman will do. Who do I notify?

Come in, man. Did you read what I posted concerning the purpose of this forum and this thread? If you need a change made to your account email webmaster@glocktalk.com about it and we will get you fixed up as soon as possible. This is not the place for this request. Eric

Quite a bit of my changes will be centered around revamping the main page. In the mean time, the forum subscription system is a great way to keep track of the forums you are interested in. Eric

A chat system is one of the things I will be installing. Thanks for the suggestion. Eric

Eric, props on the blogs you have offered us on GT. How can we find the link to our blog on Glock Talk, to send to others online so that they can see our GT blogs? Also, can they see the blog even if they are not members? If not, then that would be something that would be neat to have. Users using their GT blogs as their main blog. I have mine linked on my facebook site and it shows up when I click on it but I think that might be because I am always logged into GT. ANy thoughts?
Also, the archive idea is great. Uzi talk has an UZI library and it is very neat and informative. We could comprise the same thing here with Glocks.

Hello. You can send someone a link to your profile. One of the tabs in your profile area is your blog and that is viewable to everyone, logged in or not. The easiest way for you to get to your own profile, to get the link, is to click on your name at the upper right of the page, where it says 'Welcome, Your Name'. Copy the URL from your profile page and send that to people. I intend to enhance that area of the site and integrate the blog content more fully into the site as well.
Several people have posted concerning old posts that were lost. They aren't gone, they just aren't on the site right now. I will work to reintegrate the important ones back into the live side of the site and when I can manage it, I will work to add the others to an archive system. I have backups of the database going back pretty far. Eric

Thanks for the response Eric. I think that he blog interface is a GREAT move. Making it more interactive and easier to get to would be a plus, IMO. I am going to start using it and making it my main journal. Thanks again Boss. Doing some good work here on GT!
