Hi, I'm new to AK, and would love some advice on stocks. I see the wood, metal, and plastic, and I'm wondering about the benefits of having the folding stock be hollow or solid, as well as comfort in firing against the shoulder. Thanks.

Yes it would be great if you all would post details along with the pics. Some of us newbies to the AK might learn something useful, thanks.

Is that one of the new 75rd wind up Bulgarian drums? If so, how do you like it? I have wanted to get one (or 2) if they are least close to the function/precision of the chinese counterparts.

Yes it is. In simple terms, I love it.
Only "problem" I had with it was that the side folder wouldn't fold with the drum in.

It's actually an early Century still marked Galil Sporter. It was $720otd at a gunshow. That's a little more than the street price, but I was able to pick from 3.

Not one to leave well enough alone, I replaced the ratty forearm and grip with new IMI, Duracoated it with HK black and added a South African front sight hood and skinny post. Then I shattered my thumb at work and haven't shot it in it's new configuration.

Saiga and Arsenal AK's

My two AK's. The 308 Saiga started out as a 22" bbl, shortened it to 18" in the conversion.
The Arsenal SGL101, I am not going to convert, I like it with the rifle stock.

Mojo Peep sight on the Arsenal, and a modified Tech Sight on the Saiga
Vortex Flash Hider on the Saiga.

On top of the hand guard is much better as the sight is lower and you can have a good cheek weld. The side mounts are way to high.

I would have been ok with a low profile, quick release type side mount on my AK's actually... but ended up finding that on my SAR-2, with that type of set-up, that there was too much flex between the receiver & barrel which found me with a "shotgun" type pattern @ 50 yards... not good!

I get no such "shotgun" pattern with the Ultimak gas-tube mount...

HOWEVER, the biggest complaint about my set-up is for the fact that it does make the AK a bit muzzle heavy... hence the reason why I picked up a Aimpoint MRD as soon as I could! It does help.

Be warned though... the Ultimak gas-tube mount will bake apart cheap red-dots... the better red-dots will be fine, but you won't be able to get away with a cheap one for very long if you actually use your AK!
