Missouri Cops & CCW

I've got to spend a week in southern Missouri next month and already checked to see if my Mississippi Firearms License is honored there(it is) but I wanted to see if anyone could give me better input, especially concerning cops, ccw and peaceable journey laws.

If stopped is it better to declare you're carrying or does it matter?

Can firearms be anywhere if the vehicle?

How forgiving are they on speed limits? Like 5-10mph over ok?

Anything else I might need to know?

Thanks and looking forward to my first trip to Missouri!

10mph will got me a ticket a year and a half ago. The trooper was cool about my ccw, but then I had a permit.

With a permit, you can have it anywhere in the vehicle, but there are many "no carry" zones: schools, buses, government buildings, hospitals, and some others.

If you have a permit, you do not have to announce you are carrying, but since my CCW endorsement is attached to my drivers license record, I told him so he would not be surprised.

Missouri honors all CCW permits. Lived in Mo all my life, no tickets never over 7 MPH over the limit. You have to tell if asked if you are armed. Not required to volunteer. Can conceal anywhere in the vehicle even on your person.

Check out this site very informative will answere most questions.

Yeah, I checked that site first but I always prefer to talk to locals, more personal that way.

The reason I asked about the speeds is because in MS, 10mph over is the common standard and I'm pretty used to it and didn't want to assume it was true there.

Anyway, I'm heading up to Springfield first week of August, they moved me there instead of Nixa and I'll be there for a week.

Thanks for the info guys, appreciate it! Feel free to add anything else too.

Along those lines, considering moving to the Springfield area, I have a CCW in Nevada, what are the requirements for getting on in MO?

I have been pulled over 3 times with a ccw on me, ALWAYS tell the officer first thing that you have a legally owned ccw on you, they appreciate that, and it is a respectful thing to do. would you want to know if the guy you just pulled over had a gun on him? yep. I have never had any problem with an officer after i let them know that i was carrying. I have actually been let off of a massive, massive speeding ticket because i disclosed that i had a gun instead of him finding it. Be respectful, let them know, they will appreciate it and treat you with respect as well.

Take a 1-day class
be 23 or older
take the class certificate to the Sherrifs office, along with 2 checks, and they'll print you and fill the form.
45 days later, they'll call you in and give you a slip of paper that you take to the driver's license place.

FYI - have them put the endorsement onto a state ID rather than your license.......
