This is turning into an interesting topic. I'd like to see her get something that is truly military in nature.

If you ask me...she took down a terrorist. My bet is she gets a national law enforcement award too.

Lordy DS,

I know how to contact my reps. I am asking if the road towards a (military) medal is via petitioning our congress critters, or if it's up to the chief of staff from a particular branch jump starting the process, etc.

Actually, it's the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Congress gets their award. Only fair the executive branch gets theirs. And yes, she does deserve it. Pity she didn't kill him. Now we're going to spend millions and probably a decade prosecuting him, not to mention the cost of his education (got to be a half-million there). I wish her a speedy and full recovery.

Oh, and BTW, the press should put accuracy above their burning desire to be first. Virtually nothing that was reported that night was accurate (other than somebody was shooting the place up).

This doctor received the Navy Cross on Wake Island as a civilian.

Edited to add this interesting link.

I stand corrected. Thank you.

I don't think the critters have anything direct to do with it, but if someone, say the chairman of the armed services committee, were to ask Sec Defense what's being done to get this person the recognition they're due, it would likely grease the chute a bit. Probably need to be recommended by the commander of the base in a case like this. I'm sure pressure will come from above if he's slow to do it.

Circa 1942-45, did we change our description to 'Land of the free, except for Nazis, Fascists, and Japanese Imperialists'? Excluding followers of an intolerant murderous totalitarian ideology does not violate the principles of freedom. And if any confuse sharia with freedom, I suggest they move to Pakistan for awhile. A Christian friend of mine from Karachi told me what it was like.

Gotta agree with this. Those who plot to destroy our freedom ought not to be "free" to carry out their plans on our soil. There's a term to describe those who think otherwise... useful idiots. Useful to Communism, useful to radical Islam... useful, in general, to the enemies of liberty.

Actually, a LOT of Japanese-Americans were sent to Internment Camps:

One of the sadder aspects of this is the fact we didn't intern Italians or Germans living in the US. Our policy was directed at the Japanese.

A good many of whom...were American citizens...sometimes by many generations. And many of who served and died in Europe.

Yeah they got a pretty bad deal in the war.

The Germans actually were raising funds in the US prior to the war. They had a rather elaborate system going and a lot of people donated money here not realizing what they supported.
