This Cheap Red Dot set up works pretty well!
I bought a Tasco ProPoint that I was planning on mounting to my 10/22, but I decided to try it out on my AR since I had it with me when I made my purchase. Also, I found a QD knock off that came in a plain white box with no label or markings of any kind. The mount came with a couple of different height risers and one gave me good cowitness. So far, it works pretty well. The QD grabs tight and seems to hold a zero. The Tasco is plenty bright and although the dot is 5moa, I had no problem getting really tight groups at distance. I still plan on getting either an Aimpoint + magnifier or an ACOG eventually, but for now, this little set up was well under 200 bucks and is working pretty well. I found that I like the sight mounted all the way to the rear for now. Next time at the range I will try it forward, back just feels more like a traditional rifle scope.

When I go back to range I will find out more info about the mount. The guy I bought it from said he just found them and I am a beta tester of sorts. I will report back with more info. It was under 40 bucks fyi

Good to know.
I just picked up a Vortex "Strikefire", so far it's just mounted with rings but I would like to try your setup.

Go to a gun show and look for the nastiest, flea bitten, Nazi propaganda shirt wearing, scuzzbucket. He'll have them front and center. Be careful though, he might try to say they are "fall of the truck real ARMS mounts" and price them as such and not as Chinlee garbage.
He'll have "real" Aimpoints and ACOG's for $200 also....

Well, at least I'll have plenty of people to check pricing with.

I've read quite a few bad reviews of the Strike Fire scope, to include faulty internals which don't light up and even on the ones that work, that the light was way dim even on the highest setting so that it rendered it almost useless during the day... so I went with the good ole EOTech.

Cheap is cheap but whatever. It is your money.

True, but a bullseye is a bullseye too. I removed the qd, put it back on, and it RTZed perfectly. Like I said, I will be getting high end optics (leaning toward an ACOG) but sometimes cheap stuff does work pretty well.

My philosophy is when it comes to cheap gear, get the best of the best cheap gear.
When it comes to high quality, get what you can afford and be happy.
