S&W 340PD vs. M&P 340
I am comparing the S&W 340PD with the M&P 340. Other than differences in sights and the weight (M&P is 1 oz heavier) they look to be the same gun. True?

Do know anything about the M&P 340 but I've shot and carried my S&W std. 340 for over 4 years now with the clip grip and LOVE it. With ether one you won't be sorry.

the 340PD has a Scandium cilinder and red ramp front sight (11.4oz unloaded) and the M&P340 has a stainless steel cilinder and XS Tritium front night sight (13.3oz unloaded), the best price I found including shipping M&p340 $701.00 and the 340PD $803.00.

I bought a 340pd and installed the XS big dot front sight for a M&P 340 onto it. They are both pinned sights so the installation is fairly easy. Buy whichever you like. The previous poster was close in regards to the cylinder comment. They are both Scandium/alumanium mix alloy frames and the M&P 340 has a stainless cylinder and the 340PD has a Titanium alloy cylinder. I think.

340 PD has a titanium cylinder and a warning not to shoot 110gr or lower 357 mags in it
340 MP has carbon steel cylinder, weighs slightly more as shown above and comes with front tritium sight - no warning as to bullet grain weight

What 357 or 38 Special loads are you guys running in your 340's? Also has bullet pull been a problem?

I have "Deer stoppers" from Georiga Arms. It's a 158gr speer gold dot bullet.

As already mentioned the M&P has a steel cylinder which is a positive aspect IMO.

It is more durable, you do not have to worry about damaging the thin protective layer that the titanium cylinder has. I have a PD as the M&P was not offered at the time. I wish I had the steel cylinder.

I'll be staying away from Magtech 158gr SJSP 357
Had a bullet jump about 2.5mm out of the case

Warning!! Check closely!!
This is something that all the 340 PD shooters need to be aware of. I have seen several of these revolvers with this problem, mine included. This happened to mine after only 25 rounds of 125 grain .357 and approximately 100 rounds of .38 125 drain +p. S&W did replace the frame under warranty. I bet your hand was a little sore as well. Have you tested the Speer 135 grain Gold Dot in 357 Magnum or 38 Special +P?
