Speer 9mm 115 +P+

Where can you find this load? I can't seem to find any stores that have it.

Ammunitiontogo.com has it sometimes. It΄s equal to the Speer 124 gr. +p in FBI gel tests FWIW.

It's listed as p/n 53612 on the Speer Law Enforcement website. It isn't labeled +P+ on the site but it is indeed marked as such on the boxes. I've seen it for sale at gun shows before in the typical 50rd boxes.

The site lists it as 115gr @ 1300fps out of a 4" barrel.

That would be nice.

Don't know if they still load it but Georgia Arms used to have a 115 +p+ Gold Dot. Once I bought 115gr. +p+, 124gr.+p, and 147gr. ammo from them. I shot them into several different mediums. Each load performed about the same. Good penetration, excellent expansion. Gold Dots are fantastic bullets.

I bought about 3 boxes of this stuff last year from ammunitiontogo. Yes, it was Speer Gold Dot 115 gr +P+. This load recoils more than any +P load that I've shot in my Glock 17. If it's reported to go 1300 fps, I certainly believe it.

For what it's worth, my only 9mm kill has come with load - axis doe through the neck at about 30 yards.

I ate parts of this deer but also used portions of it for bullet experimentation. This doe weighed about 100 pounds or so live weight. The loads that I compared with the Speer +P+ and Federals 147 HST +P. Only two shots were fired from each load.

First shot from each load was straight in the ribcage. Gold Dot penetrated completely. Federal HST +P expanded beautifully as was found just under skin on opposite side. HST lost no weight.

Second shot was through front shoulder. Both loads penetrated well (guessing about 10" or so) with the Gold Dot penetrating slightly further. HST expansion was beautiful. It expanded to slightly smaller diameter than same bullet through the ribcage due to the shoulder being a harder medium and the bullet pealing back more. Gold Dot expanded very agressively with petals pealing back. The Gold Dot did lose some weight, but the HST lost very, very little. I initially thought the HST lost zero weight through the shoulder but a closer inspection showed a couple of places where the jacket separated from the core. Still, at point blank range through the shoulder, I was satisfied with both loads.

I don't know the exact pathway each bullet took (number of ribs, shoulder bones, etc.) as this was a very unscientific test.

ATK only loads this product in limited runs and/or on special request (per their rep and lit). If memory serves this was a duty load for ATF a while back.

Shot side by side, it does have a more noticeable muzzle flash/report than the Speer 124gr +p GDHP.

I have an older (gold) box and the pressure warning lists "40% above SAAMI" or something like that.

I don't see the point to +P+ when there are so many great standard and +P rounds out there. Who needs the extra recoil, blast, and flash?
