New SIG 556...or....new Colt AR?
I'm interested in a new rifle, and am researching both of these options. The SIG is pretty tempting, with the $300 rebate offer, but it seems that even after that, the cost ends up about the same as a new Colt AR. I already have two ARs, so I could go for variety, or I could add to what I have, having the advantage of compatibility.
What do you guys think? I am overlooking some pros and cons of each option?

I'd get the Sig. If you already have 2 quality AR's (assuming you don't have dpms or something similar), then what is the point of the Colt? If I already had 2 AR's and had extra money and wanted an AR I'd probably start a hobby one and build it myself.
I have a Sig 556 and am quite fond of it.

I have a Sig 556 and a a couple of ARs as well and like them all. If you already have an AR or two the Sig is a fun gun to shoot. It is a little bit different but at least the mags and such are the same so you re not losing anyhting. I have had my 556 for a couple of years, I do like the "classic" furniture they are running now. The only downside is the Sig is a little heavier then my ARs but that should not be a show stopper. Good luck!

Also SIG just came out with it's own AR platform too. AR 516 I think it's called or something like that. And Ruger has it's gas piston AR out too. Just another AR though, they all pretty much shoot the same.
Buy a battle rifle like an FAL or an M1A1?

Nah, mine are quality..a pre-ban Bushy, and a Colt HBAR. Was thinking a 16" would be a nice compliment, while still haivng some compatibility, and ease of finding parts.

I'd get the Daniel Defense m4 for $999 and call it a day (same or better quality than a colt for $200 less)

OK...been doing a lot of thinking, shopping around, and research. I do like the SIG 556, and feel its a pretty good deal with the $300 rebate, but can still get a pretty damn good AR for the same money. Now leaning more towards doing a BCM mid length setup. Am I missing anything? Any other opinions?

I'd get the Colt. The Sig felt flimsy to me, but that's just my opinion.

Have you thought about something a little different?
The STG-556 can be had for around $1,000 and their new model takes AR mags. Just a thought! I like mine much more than my 3 AR and 4 AKs!

SIG!
Sig is basically Swiss rip-off of AK design put into a package with better ergonomics. Other then spring on the gas piston it looks like thinly disguised AK.
Colt is just another version of famous ****s where it eats gas system that everybody is getting away from.

I've got a lot of time with the Sig 556 platform, including a trip to Thunder Ranch. I love them. Reliability is fantastic, and ergonomics with the new "Classic" forend are very good. I am issued a Colt AR15 every day at work, but I'd trade it for a Sig 556 in a heartbeat if I could. While some of the very first Sig 556's had teething issues, they were resolved within the first thousand rifles or so. You have nothing to worry about.

Anyone have any thoughts on adding the new Ruger SR-556 to the mix?

I just built a BCM midlength. The way I configured mine came out to $1420, but you could easily build one for right at $1k or possibly less.
I love mine. Rock solid, dead accurate, and eats everything I feed it.

its an improvement over the colt, with a Piston system, extra magazines, troy flip up sights
with the Sig its a hard decision, definitely one i would like to see both weapons in person to decide

Buy a Colt...
Of course the smart move would be to buy a 550 Dillon progressive reloader and components. More quality practice = a more skilled shooter. A skilled shooter with only a few rifles is always more impressive than a unskilled/bad shot with all the latest cool guy crap.
