colt delta elite



I'm picking up a colt delta elite next week.

Have any suggestions and opinions I will appreciate any and all!

So far I'm thinking of getting some wilson combat mags for it.

That was the first 10mm that I fired...it was my inspiration to pick up a G20. And yes, WC mags for sure and perhaps some night sights if you don't all ready have a set.

Does anyone happen to know what the recoil spring and the mainspring/hammer is for weight.
I'm guessing the hammer spring is 23# and the recoil is 16#?

Locktite those front sights! I shot one loose in less than a box of Double Taps. Damn lucky to find it.

Skip the Metalform mags. I picked one up with the plactic follower, doesn't feed for crap.

The Factory Colt mags with the rounded follower work very well, even if expensive.

Yes, you do...and the proper tools are rather expensive.

If you have never installed sights before, I highly suggest having a gunsmith do it for you....especially on a beautiful pistol like your delta.

Well I have installed sights before however they were of the dovetail type on 1911's other than my Springer TRP. I know what you mean about the cost of sight tools all the way from 50 to a few hundred.

The recoil spring on the original Delta Elite is 23#. I'm assuming it no longer has that stupid double recoil spring system.

The hammer spring is 23#, it's been recommended to use a stronger hammer spring to slow down the slide.

Duel 23# spring still standard, and with that beauty it will handle any of the DT or your hot hand loads.

Yeeeech! Does it still have the skinny plastic guide rod?
I swapped mine for a regular sized steel one and got a single 23# spring.

3 out of the 4 of the Deltas I ran (older production models) got the following:
solid stainless steel 1-piece guide rod
22lb recoil spring
oversized rear plate fitted
Brown firing pin/hammer/sear fitted

All 4 were run with Metalform 9-shot steel-follower mags with extended rubber baseplate (Metalform made some of Colt's mags as I understand it). Some of the had other Brown parts (beavertail, ext. safety, magwell, etc.) and 1 had Trijicon standard nightsights installed (never found the 'low/snagfree' 1911 sights to be necessary).

In my experience, your pistol will require tweaking/smithing/parts replacement to run 100%. Only 1 factory 1911 ever ran properly right out of the box for me (SA TRP), and the 10mm has it's own quirks. The Colt dual-spring and guiderod are the SUCK in my experience.

If it doesn't feed, you can give it Hornady 200gr XTP or CorBon PowRBall 'til it's fixed (both have nice roundish bullet profiles).

Colt has 23# factory duel sping and it does work.....but I like FL guide rods and one is on the way as are 23#, 24#, & 26# Wolff Springs. I have new FP Plunger & spring ordered, replacement FP has arrived, but it looks too short and I have already tossed old bent FP and don't ask how I managed that trick. I may order one from Colt this time because this one from Midway came with corrosion spots on the pin and looks short to me, but have no way to tell w/o another to measure. So I'm debating on should I step up and order a new one from Colt, then start later on lower end
