G36 funky guide rod question

Hey guys. I have owned about every Glock almost, and never have seen one like I bought yesterday. I got a new G36 strating with serial # P. Well the guide rod sticks out of the front of the slide about 32nd of an inch or more with the slide on. With the slide off it is laying 'flush' with the nose of the slide.

I looked at several more at the gun show and they all did this. So there either all noraml or all broke ! Again, it is a P serial #.

Can you guys with 36's at least 3-4 years old or more, and new ones as well, please look ant see if the "nail head" looking front part of your guide rod on the out side muzzle end of the gun, with the slide 'on the frame', in it's natural state, has the 'nail head part of the rod' sticking out away from the slide just a tad. (like in the pictures). About a 32nd" and 'flush when slide is off'.

I would really appreciate it, and pics if possible. I have NO clue as to why the spring would slightly depress just sitting in the gun and push forward like this. Again, they all did it that I looked at at the gun show "after" I had already bought mine. So let's hear from you guys please. I will post this on general glocking as well, as this forum does not have much traffic.

Thanks boys.

Sorry about bad pics. It was a fast cell phone job this morning.

yup my 30 & 36 are just like yours. don't worry about it.
Even if you replace them with steel units, they will still stick out some.

big congrats on getting the 36! how do you like the 'feel' of it compared to your 1911s?

First off .. Thanks ! Well I love my 1911's but this 36 does (even with my big hand) feel really good, no problem with that. I really like the slim little guy. Haven't shot it yet, been to busy. I will have more time in a day or two. You mentioned your G30. Mine (G30) the rod sets flush with the muzzle so does my G27 G29, all the "double spring glocks." This G36 is the only one I've seen that does it. Not trying to make a federal case of it, but it did make me wonder.

well, If you guys are not having problems with function (and we shouldn't with any glock), I will forget it and go on then. Man this little gun has got such a horrible bad rap on the internet, I just about didn't buy it yesterday after hearing all the horror stories on this gun.

I figured this just can't all be true, got to be some other reason for the malfunctions etc. So, I got it. Feels good in the hand, so I'll unload a few hundred rounds in a day or two.

Thanks again amigo. I appreciate it...

Mine is the same. I think you are going to like your Glock 36. They are really handy to pack around. Seven rounds of 230 grain hardball at 27 ounces loaded.

Thanks AK. I put in a Wolff steel rod and 20# spring in yesterday that I took out of my G30. Problem solved. fits great and flush against the muzzle on the outside. The G30/29/36 have that one trait in common on the same size guide rods. Not much else will swap out for the 36 at least.

Anyway thanks again, I look forward to rappin off a few hundred 230gr'ers. I'll carry it with the 230gr ball. You probably guessed that, huh amigo ? !

Stay safe AK

Mine is the same as yours, also the rear of the slide is not flush with the frame. /this concerned me at first, however after cosulting with a fellow armorer it was determined to be the norm. After 500 or so rounds, it has performed with perfection. These have to be the best little packing guns in .45 caliber I have ever had the pleasure of owning. Accurate, and as much at home in a gun belt as it is in a pocket holster or a IWB.

Looks like a stand off rod like the XD's. Push it against someone or something and it will not allow the slide to be pushed back, keeps the gun in battery.

Well, again guys, like I told AK. I put the wolff 22# steel rod/spring set up out of my G30 (they are interchangeable) in the G36, problem went away. I put the G36 factory set up in the G30. Guess what ? It stuck out !

Nature of the little factory beast. Plain and simple. So I'll use the wolff set up in the 36, and buy another one for the G30 to replace that one.

Now if I could only find the time to shoot this bad boy... Perhaps tomorrow ! haha

Thanks all you guys. I really appreciate the input/help

Stay safe guys !

I doubt that any regular poster on GT would expect you to carry any other load than 230 grain ball. Just to mess you up a little mine also runs good with the Hornady 230 grain TAP +P. I know you must have some of the XTP loads around the ranch.

You know me AK. It will be 230gr ball, and when in the mood the 230gr XTP Tap. You got me figured out pretty good amigo. haha.

Well again. Gotta run right quick.

Buenos Dias.

Well, finally stepped out in the 100 degree Texas heat a few minutes ago with the new G36.

Results as follows:

In this target are:

200 rounds of various 230gr ball ammo, 230gr Speer Gold Dot, 230gr Hornady XTP Tap, 230gr Winchester White box JHP's.

Wonderful accuracy, very easy shooting, and flawless Glock functioning !

All this was semi rapid fire sweaty hands to the max at 7 - 9 yards. I am a happy man ! It liked all ammo and was very accurate with all ammo named above, but more so with the 230gr Remington umc ball, and with the 230gr XTP-Tap. Those two made little clusters, but the rest were very accurate as well, even shooting semi fast and double tapping.

Yeh thanks! I discovered it is no big deal. I put the factory rod out of the 36 in the 30 snd it stuck out in it as well, so as I said, "just the nature of the little beast." All is well. I have fired almost 400 perfect and accurate rounds of ALL kinds and brands through it. It is holdin pretty small grops and getting tighter ones all the time. It is/will be fine.

Thanks !

All issues resolved by 'me.' I went out side and rapped off 50 rds 230 Rem UMC FMJ's yesterday, semi rapid fire, 8 yards, and all is well. I placed the first shot to the right on the white paper just to "seat everything" after I went through the gun and smoothed some things up and polished some things.

Gun ate up everything else i shot as well, (as it should) and is flawless (as it should be).

Thanks gents !

Hey, whats not to enjoy when I am getting groups like this with everything I feed it, and as I may have mentioned, even out to some pretty long ranges as well.

Got a mag full of 230gr XTP Tap, and one full of 230gr Ball. I feel good !

Now I have to have a talk with my 1911's and tell them I will stillgive them the bulk of the EDC, but this little brother will be joing in as well. Haha.

Thanks and stay safe !

Sorry to resurrect an old thread from the dead.
Just curious, what are y'all's reason for carrying ball? Thanks-
