The next gun in my SHTF arsenal...

I really enjoy reading your articles and posts and I think you might be able to help me in my next purchase. My wife and I have been slowly building a collection of guns to meet various scenarios. We both shoot competitively in USPSA competitions to keep our skill levels up. Our home defense/SHTF collections consists of:

Remington 870 shotgun - HD
Glock 34/Glock 26 - my carry/HD pistols
S&W M&P 9 / Sig P239 - wife's carry/HD pistols
Ruger SR556 - SHTF carbine
Various .22lr pistols and rifles - cheap practice and survival

The next thing on my list is something with a little more reach and a little more accuracy. I'm thinking a bolt-action scoped rifle in .308. Any suggestions? I'm still thinking SHTF or civil unrest scenarios. Would something along the lines of a Remington 700 or Savage 10 be appropriate? Any other suggestions? What about scope magnification power for this type of weapon?

Looking forward to your response.

My own go-to "precision rifle" is a Savage police model 110 heavy barrel .308 with 3-9X variable, but the last time I thought I was going to need that technology for real (a decade ago), it was a Springfield Armory M1A in the same caliber with a variable power Trijicon scope.

Highly unlikely to NEED (for most of us), but very cool to HAVE.
