Troy, in 9mm Luger a 115 grain JHP at +P/+P+ velocity (1250-1350 fps) will usually give you a very wide wound channel about 10" deep in calibrated ballistic gelatin, while I'd expect the 147 grain subsonic Ranger to go more like 13" with a narrower corollary wound track.
In .45 ACP, the 230 grain JHP seems to recoil somewhat more than the 185 grain when both are loaded to standard pressure.
