Applying for cwp
The state has their safety course requirement but says that military/police service is an exemption or that it can be used as such if the police chief says the okay. Problem is the application form says to provide a dd214 as proof. thats a discharge form. Im still in, so dont know what to use? Photocopy my Id?

looking for my local police chiefs contact info, the city website sucks as there re doing it right now. It literally has a banner saying that there will be hiring vacancies "now through 2009"
The "weapon permit application" link is a dead link.
Also the only application online has maine state police filled in as issuing authority, cant backspace it to put in the westbrook police since threy'd issue.

Or you could just look for the number in the phone book. Or go down there and ask.
I live in Iowa. And you can use a DD214 for getting a permit. But the county Sheriff (they issue here, not the State Police) will also take your military ID if you're still in. Though there has been some issues w/ some Sheriffs not understanding this. There ar 99 county Sheriffs in Iowa.
From http://www.handgunlaw.us/
http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/maine.pdf
http://www.maine.gov/dps/msp/license...%20package.pdf (This very well could be out of date though)
Since it appears that the State Police issue the permits, I would just call them and ask all your questions. I don't know how far their headquarters is from you. I'd just go down there.

When I was in Idaho the sheriff of our county just wanted photocopies of our IDs. I ended up turning in an AF 522 (USAF GROUND WEAPONS TRAINING DATA) and a printed CAMS rip of my training anyhow. See if your branch of service has a form similar to the AF 522.
EDIT: Almost forgot to mention. There was also a standard letter that our 1st Sergeants could sign certifying that we were in fact active members in the military. In our case, these were required to override/satisfy any type of residency requirements.
