My G17L...got questions

I just picked up a G17L with only 6rnds fired through it, w/ Tupperware, mags, book, brush, and everything for $400. (yeah, I stole it for that price, don't think the guy knew what he had.) It's a July 1988 model -DB***

It's got the ported barrel and standard sights.

I've read that the barrel is not reliable for thousands of rounds because of weakness in the porting or something. I don't want Glock to perform any upgrades, because I want to keep it all original, but I want it to be just as reliable for thousands of rounds like my newer Glocks, but I'm just not that familiar with 1st gens. Anybody have any advice?

There were cracking issues around some of the ports on G17L. You can buy a non-ported Glock factory barrel for use, and store the original barrel. The ports are of limited benefit. My G17L doesn't have them, and it shoots SO soft and straight.

Any issues with gen 1 frames not holding up to thousands and thousands of rounds like the newer Glocks?

What's the best aftermarket barrel for the G17L?

I hope you're just using that top photo as a general example of what a ported 17L looks like, and not passing it off as your actual weapon. If you borrow a photo from someone on the web, or use it as an example, it should be clearly labeled as such, especially if it is mixed-in with your own photos.

Put a new barrel in it and call it a day. Good gun.
