Hot Shots Shooting Range, 2445 Austell Road, 770-436-6600
This is okay for pistols, I don't know about rifles. It's indoors so it's certainly not going to be long range.
Do you know any Marietta cops? The police range is on County Services Parkway.

Thanks,
I shoot at Hot Shots and buy my guns at Adventures Outdoors. I used to belong to South River but the drive is too long.
Can anyone shoot at the police range or must you be a cop?

Creekside is waaaaaay the heck out there. It was a 1:15 drive for me from Vinings/Smyrna. The range itself was decent (very muddy though and no paved road) but the range guy (early 20's?) had a serious attitude problem. Seriously, if he doesn't have anything nice to say, he should leave his customers alone. I paid my money and followed all rules but he was either really bored (nobody else was there) or just inherently an argumentitive prick.
There's a public range a little further up I-75 (same driving time though) called Chestnut Mountain.
Take exit 320 off I-75 and head WEST on Resaca Lafayette Rd/Route 136. After a few miles you'll reach the end and you'll be forced to turn either right or left. Turn RIGHT (I think it's still called Resaca Lafayette Rd/136) and go about 1000 feet and on your right side you will see a dirt road with a sign for Chestnut Mountain Rd. Take the dirt road and you'll end at the shooting range. $5 admission (in an envelope). Be honest. If not, the park rangers may check the payment box and see your car's license plate didn't pay. Then you will be in a world of pain.
I haven't tried the range in Adairsville yet.
Is there any outdoor range CLOSER to Smyrna/Vinings? I'm willing to pay for a membership but I don't want to drive more than 30 minutes. :P
Otherwise I may as well go to Chestnut Mt.

I had the same experience - I live in the same area as you do. So far the best place is South River. I was a member but it is too far and too expensive. I've gone there for IDPA.

Shooting is getting expensive when you add up the gas and cost of ammo these days.

Nice place. Kind of new. They have a pit for special training and a row of at least 10 stalls, covered from weather with electric cable target hangars.
Call for details. I'm sure there is rifle provisions also.

Does anyone know if the DeKalb County police range is still out in Lithonia and open to the public? I haven't been there in close to 15 years. Used to go with my dad about once a month when I was a kid. The only negative is its paper targets only, and 25yds is the closest range. I do like to be able to plink at tin cans, clay targets, etc. when I'm at an outdor range, paper is good for accuracy testing, but I like more interactive targets on ocassion.

Is anyone a member at Griffin Gun Club? I was thinking of joining but the $300 initiation is a little steep. $200 annually as well, but it is 5 minutes from my house.

Those prices seem similar to South River.
Their site doesn't tell you much about the range. Do you know how it compares to South River. I was a member of South River but the fees/driving/gas cost was getting too much for me.

There are ranges for skeet/trap and a 100yd rifle range, maybe two of those. There are a bunch of pistol bays and some action shooting setups. They said they were going to either build a new rifle range to 200yds or extend one but I can't remember.
I was there for the GSSF match recently and it was pretty nice. I've only been to south river once when I lived in conyers and I don't really remember it. I usually go to Autrey's or Georgia range and guns but I'm getting into shooting some rifles. And outdoor shooting is much more pleasant. $300 is a bunch of range visits though.

In case anyone was looking for it, here's the updated link to the list of public GA wildlife shooting ranges: http://www.georgiawildlife.org/node/920
I can vouch for Little River in Valdosta; it's where I learned to shoot. Good place, nice folks! Though being in Atlanta now, I'm going to have to get used to indoor ranges...

I didn't see Sandy Springs Gun Club here yet... http://sandyspringsshootingrange.com/
It's worth checking out if you're in Sandy Springs area, $10 for 11-2pm. The ranges are pretty well ventilate and got a nice staff. Also, they were out grilling on Memorial Day, so that is very cool!

There is now a brand new indoor gun range in Douglasville.
This is the old Tactical Concepts/Wolf Creek range that burned down a while back. Anyway the building was rebuilt after it was burned down to the ground (I don’t know the cause of the fire). I have not been in there yet, only driven by, but it seems someone spend a lot of money on the facility.
Stoddard's Range and Guns
5840 Bankhead HWY (Hwy 78)
Douglasville, GA
Looks like you have to purchase a yearly membership package but it starts at $199 so it doesn’t seem too bad.
http://www.stoddardsguns.com/site/index.php
On a side note – does anyone have any information on the Tallapoosa Youth Range / West Georgia Youth Range? It is an outdoor rifle and pistol range with up to 200 – 300 yard shooting berms from what I was told. Its in Haralson county, off of Hwy 78. Would really like to hear from someone that has shot there. I have not been there but would like to check it out.
Here is an interesting read about this range.

I don't know much about it, but it looks like it will be a nice setup.
