Hey congrats on the buck ctious! That's awesome.

I too just had my first Glock 20 harvest! This morning, about 15 minutes after daylight she and several others came rite up the fence row i was sitting in between 2 cut corn fields. 15 yards quartered to me a shad more than i would've liked, but the shot was there and i felt pretty good for 15 yards. I am more than comfortable with that range keeping my shots every bit of inside a pop can. Corbon 135gr JHP @ 1450fps (factory projected) proved instant Lights Out. The Corbons were my ammo of choice because of the 3 different boxes i have, those were what i shot the most accurate and consistent. I was after a well place shot and got what i was looking for. Late doe season only here in southern Michigan. Still have one tag left, see what i can do!

Nice job, MichiGun! That Nosler 135gr .40" bullet at high speed has sure taken more deer than I'd care to admit. Wow.... good shootin!

Thanks everyone...

Yes the 135gr did more than i could have asked for. I guess an exit would have been nice. Yet i realize the bullet was not designed for penetration. It did rather do exactly as it was designed to. Inside the goodies basket was pure MOOOOOSH!!!!. Never did recover the bullet. Found plenty of frag.

I use XS BigDot. I love them. Very accurate when i take my time with them. Yet serve even better by the bedside!

Jackson county

I carry the 135gr corbons. I picked up some 180gr Hornady XTP and a pound of Longshot today at Schupbechs. Gonna work up a good hunting load. Hopefully i can report how those work before season ends!

That's what we like to hear. The 180-200gr XTP is just right for deer if you ask me... so long as you don't hit large bones (ribs, legs, spine are okay, shoulders are not). Wide, flat-nosed hardcast at high speed is extremely effective, as well, from what I hear. I will find out next season on that.

Nice job. Congrats!

I hope to try again next week during late muzzleloader season. Had a (wild) chance at some running does last shotgun season, but didn't connect.

Deer Hunter

If you have the right kind of pet, you don't need a gun to go deer hunting. Photos speak for themselves.

Nice one Ken. Thanks for posting the photos. Seems like there must be a lot of deer in Michigan. A few of the reports come from there. Enjoy those backstraps!

Good Job Ken!

Take those does out!!! And nice buck. Michigan is loaded with deer!!! And a lot of nice ones at that. I ended up filling my last tag, unfortunately it wasnt with the G20. She was at 75 yards. Same fence row between same corn fields. A tad out of my comfy range this time. So........ the 12 gauge she got!!!! lol

Who else took a deer with 10mm this season? I enjoy reading about hunting stories with the 10!!

Update...

Hows everybody tday? Its been a while.

Goods news... When we skinned the doe I ended up recovering the 135gr Nosler JHP. It had made it all the way (diagonally, as she was quartered to me just a tad) through the chest cavity, (where everything was just moosh ), continued through the opposite shoulder and was found in the thick fatty tissues just between the hide and meat.

I was surprised in two ways after this experience using this ammo on whitetail deer. First i was surprised when i field dressed the animal and found all the fragmentation. When at first i couldn't find the slug or an exit I just couldn't make myself believe that the entire thing just fragged apart like that. But thats what I came to... Upon finding the slug, i was even more surprised to see such a nice mushroom still intact as it should be. So it had me baffled... I was curious to see the new weight.

Here are a couple pics. The slug retained 93-94 grains(cheap scale, went back and forth). From 135 that gives 42 grains of frag. Im glad we eventually found it. It help put an ending to my doubts and misunderstanding of what had happened with the bullet.

The 10 Ring
The 10 Ring

Even though i will no longer be using the Corbon 135gr JHP for deer. Ill take performance like that anytime! I've since developed a 180gr XTP handload from my 6" LW barrel that i am really liking. Ended up settling for a little lower velocity than i was expecting but wow is it accurate! I'll report on that load some other time from the G20 and the Mech Tech CCU. But...

That's my deer hunting report for the season. Sorry i was a little late. Hope you found it interesting.

Excellent, thanks for the report on the specifics of the 135gr Nosler performance on your deer kill!

Michigun, that is good news that you found the slug. I've weighed these Nosler 135s through milk jugs & found very similar results to what you found there in the deer. We know it works! I am also going with 180 gr. xtps soon as my next work up.

In light of that Nosler 135 performance, do you guys think that is too much for SD purpose, as in collateral damages it may cause ?

I am intrigued. May be the same bullet at lower speed than the 1400fps, but will it open up the same way ?

I don't think its too much at all... its the common weight used in .40SW defense loads and has an extremely high one-shot-stop percentage, even at .40 velocities (1250fps). Even a mild 10mm loading would be devastating and I've no doubt that a 135gr at 1600fps would be nothing short of a bomb. The nice thing is, its a normal bullet. Its not even a "deadly black talon cop killer armor piercing exploding tungsten core" bullet... its just a normal hollowpoint. I keep my 10's loaded with 135's at home since I want something that stops in the "first jug", so to speak. :P

Don't know if this qualifies, but I had to finish this buck off with my S&W 610.

Sure it counts, it's 10mm auto round as well. Last year I was looking for a SW 610 revolver but nobody would sell it, seems like it's a keeper once you got it. So I bought used Taurus M44 6.5" CP.
About your deer, did you weigh him? What was your primary hunting weapon in this case?
