Hmmm, I suppose many would think the 229 is a superior handgun. However, after several years of experience with that system I am not impressed. The .40 itself does nothing for me and the fact that so many of our shooters do so much better with a 9mm...

I just don't understand your aversion to Glocks, you seem to be very knowledgeable about handguns and your collection is incredible. I have been shooting for all of my life and I have been a fully certified instructor since 91. I continue to train every chance I get and teach on an almost daily basis.

If I thought the M1911 was still a viable weapons system for all to carry I would definitely teach it. However, from my years of experience I know that those that use it well train hard with it, they train a lot and are very dedicated to it.

Most agencies especially the larger agencies just do not have the time nor dedication nor the willingness to spend the time and effort to train with a system like that. When we went to the 229 with its DAK trigger I was dissapointed not so much because I would not be able to carry my G17 but because so many people would not have a choice. Since then the size, trigger, recoil and weight has caused so many problems that eventually the agency agreed with my original sentiment.

So yes, I will celebrate the ability to carry my beloved G17/G26 combo, not only because it is MY favorite carry system, but because so many people will now have a choice, several choices in fact that will fit them better and make training them easier and hopefully make their firearms experience a more positive one.

One more thing on my little rant...I have NEVER experienced more than a few malfunctions with my Glocks and very few with all of the Glocks in service with my agency. My experience with M1911's (and I did carry some for several years and still shoot them for fun) is that they are finnicky, picky, and prone to all sorts of stoppages.

JM2C and again...I LOVE your collection and enjoy your posts!

Don't get me wrong,I love the 1911 pistol and always have a few at hand, the G-17 is now and has been for a while my go to pistol. The 17 has higher capacity, less chance for corrosion, less chance of me crying if damaged, well you get the message.tom.

I also carry the Sig 229 .40 with the Glock 26 as a backup/off-duty. Just found out today we'll be allowed the G17 in lieu of the 229. I like the Sig too, but prefer the Glock, Sigs heavy and a little higher maintenence.

The G17 is considerably lighter to carry than a P229 especially the rail model.I used to own a P229 in .40 and it makes a good house gun.I felt the P229 was wider and bulkier than I prefer.Plus I shoot much faster with my G17.

I recently picked up my first 17 gen 3, used at Cabela's this past year after carrying a 22 for many years. I cleaned it up a bit and it works like a charm. I am guessing that the previous owner may have been having malfunctions with it because the extractor depressor plunger assembly was pretty much "glued" in place with a combination of residue, oil and gunk. Simple fix and it works fine now.

I have been told that Glock makes limited runs of 17L's and 24's from time to time. Anyone know the secret to getting one, other than extreme luck?

I have a factory refurbished 2nd gen G17. To me, it is the best combat 9mm pistol. I've owned and or shot Sigs, Berettas, S&W 's, Springfields. They are great guns no doubt but if I had to go to war tomorrow, the Glock is my choice.

In my opinion, the 2nd Gen Glock 9mm's are what have Glock their reputation.

I'm a fan of the G17/KT32 combo, and utilize it several times a week OTJ. Other times, I carry my G26.

UPDATE: Yep, the revolution is on at work. I have so many applications to carry the G26 and a few for G17 that I'm behind on processing. Next week I'm spending as much time as possible getting these folks into their new G26's.

The G17 is restricted to a certain class of user so I'm not getting as many applications however, they are starting to roll in. Interesting fact is, many of the applicants are smaller statured folks who have been having a real hard time with the 229, however some of the others who are applying are some of the better shooters who shoot perfect or near perfect scores with their 229's but prefer the size, weight and reliability of the G17.

Yesterday I carried my G2G17 'into the fray' and felt so darn good about it. After a successful operation I went to the range and fired about 150 rounds and was as impressed as I was on day one. One of the other guys shooting his G3G17 stated that shooting our course of fire with the G17 is almost cheating.

I never did turn in my 229. I keep it for instructional purposes only. The agency is totally committed to the .40. If you master the trigger (as with any gun) it does shoot very well and I rarely shoot anything other than perfect scores with it. However, the bulk the weight, having to keep it wet and the trigger all serve to remind me how happy and appreciative I am of being able to carry my G2G17/G3G26 combination for real world ops.

Hope you're all having a great day and carrying the one that founded it all!
