Difficult decision

I have recently considered the thought of betraying My glock 20 and trading it for something that would fit my hands better. i bought my Generation 3 Model 20 almost exactly a year ago, but upon my first time shooting it i realized with horror that i was terribly inaccurate with it. My first trip to the range yielded (with 100rds of CCI blazer 200gr FMJ) about a 1 1/2ft group at about 17yards. Within the same session of shooting i would switch off and shoot my dads Kimber custom 2 1911 .45acp; with his handgun i was averaging 4'' groups at 25yds. I was kicking myself in the head. But i decided to keep going with it and get use to the trigger and see if i could get better. 300rds later my groups did indeed shrink, but now my best is still about a 10 to 12" at 20yds. this is because i have gotten used to the trigger. I love the firearm itself, i really do, i mean 16 rounds of a (potentially) 200 grain .40 caliber bullet traveling 1200fps, or the man-stopper 135gr going 1550fps, plus the un-worldly reliability of the firearm design, and almost indestructible-ness of the space age polymer. Well its one down side is the size of the grip. you see i am a generally small guy, 5'7" 140lbs. I wear a size medium glove, but the grip is just flat out too large for my hands to shoot accurately. so i figure there's no point in owning a handgun i can't shoot well. So i considered the possibility of trading my G20 for something of equal or lesser value. My ideal trade would be for an older, used but High quality 5" 1911, or for a new but cheap (like a Springfield Milspec/G.I 1911A1 with a great warranty) model. I shoot 1911's really well and i love the platform, history, and design; It's actually my favorite pistol. in second place would be a ruger 4" GP100, (i have heard these things are absolute tanks) preferrably stainless steel as i dont like Ruger's blueing all that much. I have only held the GP100, and like the feel of it. So now all i have to do is locate these items for sale, and work out a trade for ma ole reliable. 10mm is expensive, and thats part of the reason i have only put 400rds through it in a year, but i chose the glock 20 because of its cartridge, being ballisticly superior than any other semi-auto handgun cartridge that is fairly available. So my fellow Glock owners, i am sorry for the betrayal. But if i were to have to defend myself or family from a person or animal, having this 20 in my hand wouldnt yield good results, i would just mame the attacker with the first shot, maybe even miss totally, so i am going to trade this great firearm for something i can actually shoot well.

I have another handgun i forgot to mention, a 1954 Mint condition Cz52 7.62x25mm, i am pretty darn accurate with it, but ammunition in that caliber is even harder to find than 10mm, but not nearly as expensive, anyways a 58 year old handgun that shoots a small light-bullet going fairly fast is not my ideal future carry/home defense handgun.

Have thought of trying to trade for a Gen4? It's the reason I went with a Gen4 22. I tried a Gen3 and couldn't find a grip that fit me best.

Had exactly the same problem. Cured it with a Smith and Wesson M&P 40.

I think the problem lies with you only shooting 400 rds through it in an entire year. No matter what you trade for, get yourself a .22 pistol, and do some shooting.

I have a 20 and love it... Is it big for my med. sized hands? Yes. Things I did that might help you: Added a 3.5 # connecter, added an extended slide release and a .40 Cal barrel. You can get one for under $150 from Lone Wolf Dist amoung others. Think about it as, training with .38 specials in your .357 mag. I simply change the barrel out and it is ready to shoot .40 S&W ammo. I got a stainless barrel simply so I would know what caliber barrel was in the gun with a quick glance. You can also get a .357 sig barrel if you wish as well. And if you are into odd calibers: 9x25 Dillon.

Grip reduction from Bowie Tactical or Robar? I haven't seen one in person, but I have read a few interesting articles.

I could never shoot the large framed Glocks well. I had one in .45 ACP and a G20, same issue. My G20 was flawless functionally with Blazer ammo but wouldn't work with Double Tap, the ammo I bought it with. Sent it back to Glock, nothing changed on the return, sold it. Don

Do you take me for some 18 year old who wants to get into firearms? I happen to have a .22 rifle. But i have been shooting firearms (especially handguns) for quite some time. Angry Panda i took your post offensively, seemed as though you depicted some new shooter getting a first handgun and not knowing anything. I live in the city and cant get to the range much, let alone my dad's land which is an hour and forty five minutes away, so no i definently cannot shoot as much as i'd like to. However i have a good amount of large caliber handgun experience and me only shooting 400rds thought the glock is not the problem, i wish it was

I too wanted a 10mm, but the G20 didn't fit my hand. I tried the G20SF and, while it was better still wasn't 'right'. My hand fits 1911s and the 1911A1 is best. I tried the EAA Witness Match and it felt almost like a 1911A1, so that's what I bought. Good luck.

I am guessing you are presuming the issue is the thickness of the grip and/or the Glock trigger. I would guess alot of people would shoot a 1911 better than the G20 but I would also guess that with more rounds shot most would improve.

Have you been able to handle a Glock 20 or 29 "SF" model? The short frame model reduces the circumference a bit of the grip so folks don't have to have giant hands. The SF frames approximates the feel of the G17 gun.
I do believe that there are several makers of 1911 style guns made for the 10mm cartridge...Armscor comes to mind, and Colt. I wish Glock would come out with a single stack 10mm pistol, on the same platform as the G36(my current CCW). I'd jump on that

The GP100 is a hefty gun, the older Security Six comes in stainless and blue finish and the grips are less bulky than the GP100 (I have both, so could compare). The S&W K frame is also an excellant choice for a revolver for normal sized hands. I've found that after you buy one K frame gun, it's like eating chocolate, you can't stop with just one!

Maybe try getting your panties out of a wad, gotta be tough to shoot with them all bunched up like that.

Me thinks the CCI Blazer ammo sucks.

Assuming you know Glocks and still bought a full frame G20 for your medium-sized hands, either/and/or trade back the full-frame for an SF, buy some decent ammo or wait for the Gen 4.

One more suggestion; Kimber Eclipse for $1200.
