I really like STI products (I own 1 full and 1 commander size STI) but can't compare your choices or offer my opinion, since I've never had the chance to shoot the Ruger 1911. Good luck with your search! For a Spartan carry, CrazyM offers good advice.

These guys are all shooting Sig P226s that weigh about two ounces more than a steel 1911. None seem to have issues with their pants falling down.

And you can tell this from a picture how? And a 226 weighs 34 oz. with magazine. A steel 1911 weighs somewhere in the 38-42 oz. range.

Without a duty belt, I guarantee you are going to be hitching up your pants about every 5-10 minutes, more if you are walking. Unless you have hips and waist like a woman, in which case I can almost guarantee you aren't going to be carrying a 1911 IWB.

I can carry my Beretta 92FS with 18+1 IWB or a 5" steel 1911 with 8+1 OWB using my Wilderness Instructor's 5 stitch 1.5" belt all day with no issues whatsoever. Good holster and good belt work wonders.

And that's not even counting 2 spare 20rd mags for the Beretta.

It's got more to do with the hype surrounding the SR1911. My buddy has an STI and it's one great pistol. Can't go wrong with either.

no droopy pants here, even carrying a full size Springfield hi-cap 38Super, and i'm not using a duty belt.

I think I'd take the Spartan over the Ruger.

the only 1911 worth owning is one MADE IN USA.....IDK what your budget is
I want my 1911s to be American....I own the Ruger, its a competitively priced
workhorse that has yet to jam or fail on me

If you have Direct TV "Guns and Ammo TV" on the Sportsman channel will be reviewing the SR1911 at 7pm CST tonight.

I started the very same thread a couple of weeks ago.

I like the ruger, I really do, it's a great American firearm.

But the STI is a better shooter. IMO

Beretta 92 weighs about 34 ounces, and OWB with a 5 stitch 1.5" belt is not what we are talking about. We are talking about an all-steel, 40 ounce gun (unloaded) IWB without a reinforced belt. Anyone who says they aren't pulling their pants up every so often is flat out lying.

A good gunbelt is a good gunbelt. My Seth's Gunleather belt does just as well. I just weighed my 92, and loaded with 18+1 it comes in at 43.3oz. The 1911 with 8+1 is 47.2oz. I have a hard time believing that 4oz makes much difference at all (because it doesn't).

Carrying either with a wal-mart special belt will of course not work out too well.

As most everyone who has used a real belt will say, Buy a quality gunbelt and you wont have an issue. There are multiple vendors and sponsors on this forum that make great quality products and are highly recommended. I have experience with the wilderness instructor and a beltman horsehide belt. Between a belt and a good holster that distributes the weight of the guy, you will see a world of difference.
