Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Sprint Run

Just returned from a week in PR to find this in mailbox.

Fit and finish are flawless. This one has the CTS-XHP blade.

Photoed next to my Spyderco Military. This combo will likely be my EDC for some time. Here's a few pics.

This knife was only available at the Cutlery Shoppe. 800 pieces were made. I got in early and paid $117 + shipping.

Nice! I'll end up with a paramilitary 2. I like the lock on the back. It's like my ATR.

Had it on the roof today and spent some time cutting fiberglass reinforced PVC membrane. As expected it zipped right through it. After a quick inspection I found that it was no longer hair popping sharp (expected) so I passed it over my fine ceramic about 10 swipes and the stropped it with the coarse medium and then the fine medium 15 each. It's now sharper than before.

Carpenter compares the steel to D2 so I expect the edge will stay working sharp for much longer than a day on the roof but the knife is too new to for me not to tune it up daily So far I'm impressed with the steel.

Yep, I'm a softie for Spyderco's too.
Gotta love that "USA Earth" stamp on there (even though mine don't have that).

I don't have a lot of knife knowledge... but I'll take a Spyderco any day.

I currently only have two Delicas, the original version and the newer FFG. I'm still carrying the original Delica, the FFG will take its place when lost or whatever.

And I have a Cold Steel Recon in my small "carry" bag.

Probably will be picking up something new in 6 weeks or so. Going to be driving right past Smoky Mountain Knife Works on a trip to Knoxville. Can't wait.

My main issue now is, I'm getting tired of S30V and always miss the sprints. No way am I paying the catch and release price on one. Maybe one of these days I'll get lucky.

Blade HQ is taking preorders for a Sprint of brown handle S35VN Para 2s, expected in June.

I am currently on the fence about ordering one, waiting for the mail to come... :D

Knife Center is taking pre-orders as well.

I think I'm going to skip this one. I've got lots of Crucible steel. Carpenter blade steel was my biggest motivation. Besides I think I'm due for a new Military

I have S35VN in my CRK umnumzaan and am not impressed. I know that CRK runs it a point or 2 softer than Spyderco but it grinds (sharpens) like 420hc. It will take a screaming edge but doesn't hold it long. S30V has a tendency to keep a "toothy" edge for a long time after the hair popping edge is gone, due to the large numerous carbides, but I don't see it with S35VN. It isn't a bad steel but I think it is a step down from s30v.

CRK helped crucible develop this steel to help with tooling wear. in the end he saves money on tools, knives sell for the same prices and contain inferior steel. All the CATRA data for s35, that says it performs the same as s30, is purely speculation. Again, I think this steel is a step in reverse from s30v.

Wait what? Crucible swears it should be 15-20% tougher than S30V and should resist chipping

But they back it up with no real data.

I have been wanting a Paramilitary 2 for a while but they are always out of stock. The few I did find were marked up double price almost.

I just got the blue para 2 sprint in M390 last week. Cuts like a laser! By far the best performing knife I have owned.

I'm sure I'd like the steel but the blue scales don't do it for me
