Welcome. Having said that, there are no rights on the Internet. So, your rights were NOT violated.

Lastly, be able to laugh at yourself. There are a lot of jokesters here and we like to poke fun at each other, although until you get to know them, sometimes it's hard to tell that it's all in good spirit.

When I first joined I did not post for quite some time and only read threads. At first I wasn't sure I even wanted to be a part of GT, but now it is my most visited site on the web. I cannot go a day without my daily dose of GT.
This.

you have to consider how many post on here about "my rights were violated" have only half the story if that, and the author usually never produces copies of any official charge et cetera....

GT is a fabulous resource and venue for interaction, but you need to check out www.opencarry.org if you feel that GT is not welcoming or sufficiently moderated.

With reference to your other thread, suck it up and respond to those who have posted constructively. Ignore those who add no value to the thread.

RussP seems to be helping in that respect, but I don't know how the thread evolved/what its locked/unlocked status was and why.

IMHO, and not referring to your other thread (because I don't know what happened) people who repeatedly add no value to a thread, especially one about OC, ought to have their posting privilieges suspended (for a time) rather than the thread being locked.

Maybe the lack of a warm reception is due to the fact that the whole story sounds like BS. Either totally made up, or a LOT of facts left out....?

I looked up your original post, and found your story quite convincing. Somehow I'd missed it back when you posted it.

I think there are a good number of LEOs (& other folks) here that get defensive if it sounds like someone is painting police officers in a bad light.

Sometimes a critical post from someone with a low post count can be read as a "troll" just trying to cause trouble. I didn't read the responses as flames but just some of the guys wanting to "hold you accountable" for the rest of the story.

OK, enough excuses for other people's behavior.

Has your issue been resolved?

My suggestion is to save your pennies, and one step at a time go through the process of getting your Carry Permit (or whatever it's called in NC.). For me the biggest deterrent to getting my NY Pistol Permit was the initial expense and the paperwork. If you visit a local gun club, and get to know the people there, you might find an old timer who'd be willing to help walk you through the process.

In NY, many of us are issued "restricted" permits that only allow us to carry "fishing, hunting or target shooting or traveling to or from those activities". Fortunately, there's very little crime in my neighborhood, so ,unfortunately, I can't really tell the judge I NEED a pistol for self defense. (although I feel the 2nd Amendment guarantees me that right.) Anyway, what I'm doing now is shooting IDPA, and trying to get some basic handgun training, to be able to request dropping the restrictions. It's a slow process, but I'm living with it, for now.

Anyway good luck with your endeavors, and remember there's a whole community of gun folks here AND in your town who are willing to be helpful.
