Are these "Gen 1" units rare? I think I have one.

Are these rare as some posts seems to indicate?

I ask since I have what appears to be an earlier model 19 as it has a single pin above the trigger. Bought it new in late 1993. Maybe 300 rounds through it. I don't have the "KS ABC" on the slide, though. It does have some mild checkering on the front strap & grip. This may make it gen 2.

I gotta do some research to see what the differences are with later generations and why mine only has 1 pin over the trigger instead of 2. Although I've owned this for almost 20 years I really don't know much about them. Kinda rediscovered shooting when time and circumstances began to allow.

If the frame looks like this one, it's a Gen2:
Glock Collector's Club

The 9mm guns only need the single pin above the trigger, the only reason new one's have two pins is because it simplifies the manufacturing process....why make two different frames when two pin frames work with all models?

You are 100% right. I sent it to Glock last summer and they replaced/updated several parts, including the EDP assembly/spring, firing pin assembly, front sight and recoil spring. They did for free as some sort of update. Good customer service, IMO.

For the time being, here's my Flickr gallery with higher resolution pics:

I'll probably move everything into an album or something (I just created that account), but if I do I'll make sure to update all the links.

I didn't call Glock. It is my understanding, judging by all the research I've done, that these guns were produced in very limited numbers in 1988, and before the end of the year were updated to the Gen 2 design, so it was less than one year of production. Like I mentioned before, all the numbers and proofmarks match, barrel, slide, frame serial numbers are all matching.

The other gun in the comparison pics is of course a 2nd gen G17, which happens to be my carry gun. And before anyone asks, yes the dremeled trigger guard did provide a discernible performance advantage to me. Still haven't stippled the rest of the gun, just undercut the trigger guard and added the memory groove, though I overdid the groove by probably ~1-2mm or so.

On the barrel, to the far right of the serial number, are the three small letters 'BTT'?

Yep, you're right Butch! It has BTT right there in front of the proof marks. What is that? That's actually the first I even noticed it.

That's a date code, it show's that it was made in April of 1988.
