Outlook, iCloud, PST question
So I've got a client & here's the deal:
- He's got Office 2010. (Vista if that makes a difference to anyone)
- He's an attorney. They use a database-driven case management/calendaring/contact program, database resides on their server.
- This program will sync calendar with Outlook.
- We configured iCloud to sync his Outlook (again, primarily concerned with calendar, not contacts) with his new iPad & iPhone.
- The way iCloud works is it creates a new PST, and moves/copies (I've seen it do both, seems to be inconsistent) your current contact & calendar info into the new PST. Going forward, you should work out of the iCloud folders/PST in order for those calendar/contacts to sync to your iDevices.
- The case management program only seems to want to sync with the default PST. I've tried telling it to sync to the iCloud PST, no luck.
- When I set the iCloud PST as the default in Outlook, Outlook fails to start.
- What I need is some way for the info in the default PST to routinely sync/copy to the iCloud PST - again, at least as it concerns calendar. We'd be ok with some sort of schedule (hourly).
Is there anyway you guys know of to accomplish this? For now, he's manually dragging & dropping events from the default calendar into iCloud, which is not ideal....
Thanks!

Could you let us know what Case MGMT program he is using?
That may hold clues on a solution or transparent workaround.

Both Richcopy or Robocopy could do this for you...
Robocopy can reside in the background and execute the 'copy command' required based on time intervals or changed file status... ie - copy files after 10 min or 15 changed files - and it can also be dialed into WAN/LAN bandwidth requirements so that it doesn't hog the whole connection.
Would that be useful?
That would help your PST updates, but having 2 programs wanting access to Outlook.PST could be causing some 'contention' issues...
This is a really good pickle...

I would look at using Google in lieu of the iCloud solution. I set up Google sync on my workstation and it syncs only my calendar to my Google account. I then set up my iPhone to use Google as an Exchange type email account. When setting up a I-device in this manner, it offers the options to sync both mail and calendar on the device. I use both but either can be turned off. It works great for me. If I put a calendar event in my iPhone, it shows up in my online Google account almost immediately as well as my Outlook calendar after the next sync cycle. I have me workstation set to sync every 120 min but that feature is adjustable as well if you want it more often.

Crap, *facepalm*.....can't believe I didn't think of that! Brilliant! I believe that will solve the issue, since the Google Calendar/Outlook sync widget interfaces with your primary PST....thanks!!!
I think that will do the trick!

Thanks, really appreciate that!
I've used the Google Calendar/Outlook sync on several occasions; I used to use it personally, and set up several of my clients with it. It works great.
The only wildcard is this case management software doesn't seem to sync flawlessly with Outlook....but we shall see....thanks again.
