Bill's "Defensive Pistol 1" is good basic stuff, with a heavy emphasis on manipulations with both hands. After his DP1 class, I had a bruise the exact shape of my magazine base-plate on the heel of my support/reaction hand. Thats how hard we were running the drills (I did my best, and put in two to three spent casings per magazine load, so I got *A LOT* of practice, that day). His DP2 is quite a bit more skills-intense: tremendous focus on the "balance of speed/accuracy," with repeated drills run under time pressure - along with again being manipulations-heavy: this time incorporating both weapon- and reaction-hand-only drills, as well as "going 360."

Shaving cream and balloons with talcum powder are good also.
I need to get some class time and competitions under my belt.
Hopefully going to be able to go to a bowing in shoot tomorrow.

springer - that silhouette target set-up on the left is exactly what i shoot on monday evenings. we start on the timer from low ready position and put (3) rounds in each target. after an un-timed mag change, we repeat the procedure for our combined time/accuracy score.
last night (with my .45ACP) my first 6-round string took 3.27 seconds. my second 6-round string took 2.72 seconds . . . i had no idea i could shoot that fast.
i like that talcum powder idea too !

The only thing I don't like about those silhouettes is that the X-ring is really down too low.....

i agree - they are too low.
the ones i like to use have a white X-ring. it's much easier to find when you're shooting for points.

Thanks duck. I usually bring the camera and video camera with us when we go out anyways. Kinda habit for us.
By the way, there are also vids from the M&G of us on my youtube channel.

You know they say the camera adds ten pounds.
Besides, I think it's just the 4x4 making you look bigger

watching this is proof of what i said earlier - i'm very impressed with how well both your sons kept their gun pointed down-range at all times. it's a positive reflection of excellent training. you and annette should be proud.

For me, I didn't feel cramped at all. I would tend to think any new shooters would like a bit more space but I never heard anyone really saying anything about being to close together.

58duck,
It seemed fine to me because of the type of event you folks had planned. If each shooter were competing against the clock, I would think there would be much more pressure and perhaps being shoulder to shoulder with others would be a bit too distracting. Although I was not able to participate I did watch the match for a while and instead of a distraction it almost seemed to add to the competitive level of this event.
Side note:
I too was impressed by the proper gun range etiquette displayed by the young boys I saw shooting. Whether it is your child or someone else’s it sure makes me feel proud to see the next generation being properly trained and enjoying the sport ofcompetition shooting.
